UND Aerospace - Piper Arrow - PA 28-201R - Grand Forks Airport, ND; (GFK), a great flying day |
I come from village of Olymbos of the Island of Karpathos in Greece. I moved to the US seven years ago for the purpose of educating myself. I first attended the English Language Institute of the College of Notre Dame in Maryland. Then I transferred to Baltimore City Community College for some GERs.
Catonsville Community College was my next destination where I attended the Commercial Flight program headed by our beloved instructor Jeffrey Burbridge. Under his recommendation, I am now at the University of North Dakota in the city of Grand Forks enrolled in the Commercial Aviation program. The plane I'm currently flying (for CFI Certification) at UND Aerospace is the famous Piper Arrow (PA 28-201R) manufactured by the New Piper Aircraft Company, a complex airplane (as defined by the FAA) which means that it has retractable landing gear, constant speed propeller, and flaps. It is a stable, and nice-flying airplane; a step up from the usual single-engine fixed gear aircraft.
Soon I'll go back to flying the mighty Piper Warrior (PA 28-161) for CFII Certification which will allow me to graduate in December of 2000. This aircraft is a fixed-gear, fixed-pitch propeller, powered by a Lycoming 160 HP engine. The Warriors provided by UND Aerospace are equipped with the latest avionics including dual GPS, but not autopilot. Why? Hmm, I think that they don't want us the students or the instructors to get too comfortable. Those pilots who are instrument-rated, and CFIIs know exactly what I am talking about. Nonetheless, autopilots are expensive to buy, install, and maintain. In general, it would be considered a super luxury for a single engine trainer that only John-John could afford, God rest his soul.
This page is still under construction due to the heavy load of tasks I've assumed including classes, flying, working, "studying", web browsing, Internet radio listening, and definitely constructing my other page. You can visit that page, which is about Olymbos of Karpathos, Greece, the island I come from. Feel free to e-mail me and let me know about any comments, concerns, and/or questions about this page or about anything else you think can be a worthwhile subject.
