"You're good but you need to work on your jump shot a little." Brian said. He flopped down on the grass.
"Thanks, I'll try I guess." Taylor answered. He walked over and sat next to him.
"Want a coke?"
"Sure." Brian got up and walked inside. A few minutes later he came out carrying to sodas with him. He handed one to Taylor. "Thanks."
The two boys sat in silence drinking their cokes, neither one sure of what to say next. They had just finished playing a long, hot game of basketball. Brian had just won by 2 points. But that was predictable seeing as he was the captain of his school's basketball team. The silence was broken when Brian asked. "So ya like Kate huh?"
"Yeah, she's cool." Taylor replied.
"Yeah, she's cute but she's not my type."
"Jen is?"
"Yep. I really like her a lot."
"Good. She likes you a lot too. "
"You guys are pretty close aren't you?"
"Well I've known her for like ever. She's like a sister to me."
"But haven't you ever wanted to be more than friends. I mean come on she's so beautiful and popular, and nice. It still surprises me that she likes me. Jen Foster is my girlfriend. It's weird."
Taylor answered uncertainly. "Well I mean sure I think she's pretty and all. But it would be weird. We're too close. Too good of friends. A couple of years ago I had a huge crush on her but I never said anything. I don't think she's ever thought of me as anything more than friends. But I got over it. She's just my best friend who happens to be a girl."
"Well good I guess. Because I mean it wouldn't be good if you did like her. Might have to fight you again." Brian smiled and lightly punched Taylor's arm. "Just kidding man."
"I know but hey I got to get home. I promised my mom I would help her with something."
"Okay cool. I"ll see ya later."
"Bye." Taylor got up and got on his bike. He waved to Brian then started heading home. You know, I guess he's not that bad after all.
"It's nice." Lesley said. She stared up at her new house.
"Oh honey we were so worried you weren't going to like it! But you have a wonderful room and we knew you'd love living in Tulsa. Doesn't that band you like live here? The Hendersons or something." Mrs. Stansford smiled cheerfully.
"Hanson, mom, their name is Hanson." She rolled her eyes.
"Well come on, let's go meet our neighbors, they have a huge family!" Her mom grabbed her hand and pulled across her their yard to the house next door.
"They better have some kids my age."
Her mom smiled."Actually I think there is a boy your age."
