William Eddington was born in Middlezoy, England (Somersetshire) in 1752. William married Elizabeth Mitchell in 1775, who was also born in Middlezoy, England and they had 11 children. Elizabeth (Mitchell) Eddington died on July 6, 1802. The following are children of William and Elizabeth: Elizabeth Eddington born 1776, married Joe Davis in 1805 Thomas Eddington born 1777, married Anne Tucker in 1805 Joseph Eddington born 1781 John Eddington born 1784, in Midddlezoy, England, married Anne Gillard in 1809 Ellen Eddington born 1785 Mary Eddington born 1788 Anne Eddington born born 1789 Grace Eddington born 1791 and married Charles Barnstable William Eddington born 1791 Samuel Eddington born 1797 Joan Eddington died 1797 William and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Eddington, was born in 1784 in Middlezoy, England and married Anne Gillard in 1809. Both their sons, Charles and Samuel, had children who married each other. Charles's son Thomas Eddington, married Samuel's daughter, Sara Sophia Eddington. John and Anne were the parents of 10 children as follows: James Eddington born January 16, 1810, married Grace Somers Thomas Eddington born 1813 and died April 5, 1897, married Louisa ? Eliza Eddington born 1814 Joseph Eddington born 1819 and married Elizabeth ? Alfred Eddington born 1818, married ? William Eddington born 1820, married Charlotte Gore Charles H. Eddington born January 1, 1822 in Middlezoy, England and died January 27,1900, married Rebecca Lockyer born February 14, 1822 in Middlezoy, England and died May 18, 1902. Charles obit printed in the Carlinville Democrat on January 31, 1900, read as follows: "Charles H. Eddington, living a few miles northwest of Woodburn, was found dead in his barn last Friday. He had gone there to do chores and not returned, a search was made with the above result. The doctor stated his death was caused by a paralytic stroke. He settled on the farm on which he died in 1844. He is survived by two daughters and six sons." An obit printed by the Carlinville Democrat on Thursday, August 31, 1882, read the following regarding Charles Eddington's wife Rebecca (Lockyer) Eddington: "Mrs. Rebecca (Lockyer) Eddington living west of here died on the 26th." The death certificate for Mrs. Rebecca Eddington is on file at the Macoupin County Courthouse in Carlinville, Il. No death certificate can be found for her husband, but his will is on file in Carlinville, Il. John Eddington born 1826, married Jane Browning Elizabeth Eddington born 1829, married Charles Barnstable Samuel Eddington born April 15, 1833 in Middlezoy, England and died December 20, 1878, married Elizabeth Browning born November 1, 1825 in Middlezoy, England and died August 26, 1886. No death certificate can be found on Samuel Eddington, but his will is on file in Macoupin County, Il. Betsy (Browning) Eddington's death certificate is on file in Macoupin County, Il. Charles H. Eddington, the son of John and Anne (Gillard) Eddington, born January 1,1821 in Middlezoy, England and died January 27, 1900, in Macoupin County, Il, married Rebecca (Lockyer) Eddington, the widow of Joseph Eddington. Rebecca, the daughter of Richard Fields and Nancy (Hawkins) Lockyer, was born February 11, 1822 in Middlezoy, England and died May 18, 1902 in Macoupin County, Il. Charles and Rebecca are buried in Woodburn Cemetery in Woodburn, Il. Charles and Rebecca were parents of the following children:

Samuel Eddington, the son of John and Anne (Gillard) Eddington, was born April 15,1833 and died December 20, 1878. Samuel married the widow of Joseph Eddington and Jim Tucker, Elizabeth (Browning) Eddington Tucker, she was born on November 1, 1825 and died August 26, 1886. Samuel and Elizabeth (Betsy) are buried in Woodburn Cemetery in Woodburn, Il. Samuel and Elizabeth were the parents of the following children: Eliza Eddington born August 5, 1858, married James Eddington, who was born May 1,1853 and died October 8, 1916. Eliza died August 5, 1933

Thomas Eddington, son of Charles and Rebecca (Lockyer) Eddington, was born November 25, 1862 in Brighton, Il and died in 1959 in Montgomery County, Il. Thomas married Sara Sophia Eddington, the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Browning) Eddington, who was born May 17, 1862 and died in 1942. Thomas and Sarah (Eddington) Eddington's marriage license is on file at the Macoupin County Courthouse. The witnesses at their wedding were Frederick and Jennie Reader. Both Thomas and Sarah Eddington's death certificates are on file in Montgomery County, Il. Thomas and Sara Eddington are buried in Irving Cemetery in Irving, Il. Thomas and Sara were parents of the following children:
Myrtle Alice Eddington born July 16, 1899 and died November 30, 1981, married John Thomas Armentrout, born November 11, 1898, the son of Clarence Lincoln and Ida Emma (Towell) Armentrout, on December 24, 1922. Ida Emma Towell was the daughter of Isaac Thomas and Elizabeth Jane (Chapman) Towell and the grandaughter of William and Martha (Stark) Towell. Isaac, William and William's two other sons John and William Towell Jr, all served the Union during the Civil War, serving with Company A, 3rd Ill Cavalry. William Towell Sr and his sons all served in the "Battle of Vicksburg". All their names can be found in the Illinois Memorial at Vicksburg Battle Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Clarence Lincoln Armentrout was the son of John Taylor and Rebecca (Vermillion) Armentrout. John Taylor Armentrout was the great grandson of Christopher and Susannah (Gallet) Powers. Christopher was born in Germany near the Rhine River. Rebecca was the 4th great grandaughter of Giles and Jane (Hutchinson) Vermillion. Giles was born in Wales and Jane was born in Scotland. Rebecca Vermillion was the daughter of James Strother and Elizabeth (Curnutt) Vermillion. James was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Strother) Vermillion. Thomas Vermillion was the brother of John Wilson Vermillion, better known in history as "Texas Jack Vermillion". Texas Jack Vermillion rode with Wyatt Earp's immortal posey, that tracked down and annilated the infamous "Curly Bill Brocious" and his "Cowboys". Texas Jack Vermillion served the Confederacy during the Civil War, under Colonel Jebb Stewart. The man who financed Wyatt's posey was E.B. Gage, a descendant of the Clayton family, through the William Gage line of Freetown, Massachusetts. Thomas Vermillion's grandfather William Wilson Vermillion, born 1750 in Calvert County, Maryland served as a Teamster in the Regular Troops of the Revolutionary War under Colonel George Washington. He was in the Battle of Guilford, North Carolina under Generals Green and Butler. Elizabeth Strother, the wife of Thomas Vermillion, was the great grandaughter of William Strother and Margaret Thornton, close friends and neighbors of Augustine Washington, father of George Washington. Their farms adjoined and after the death of William Strother in 1726, two hundred eighty acres of this homestead, with its two story, 8 bedroom house was sold to Augustine Washington and became part of Wakefield, recently restored as the birthplace of George Washington. William Strother was High Sheriff of King George County, Virginia and a vestryman of Handover Parish and was called "Captain Strother". He was Gentleman Justice of King George County. William Strother was the son of William Strother and Dorothy Savage. William Strother was born 1630 and died 1702. Dorothy Savage was the daughter of Captain Anthony Savage and his wife Alice Stafford. William Strother and Dorothy Savage were married in 1651 and at this time settled near Richmond, Virginia. This William Strother's father was William Strother, born in Northumberland, England in 1597 and died 1667.
Elmer Eddington born October 28, 1890 and died August 19, 1965, married Luella Compton November 11, 1914 at the brides home in Michigan. Luella was born December 20, 1894, the daughter of Henry and Lily (Sides) Comptom. Luella died January 16, 1975 Harvey Eddington born ?
Charles M. Eddington born November 6, 1896 and died September 13, 1975, married Selma on November 10, 1921. Selma was born January 7, 1902 and died October 2, 1974 Twin girls who died at birth Myrtle Alice Eddington, was born July 16, 1899, the daughter of Thomas and Sara Sophia (Eddington) Eddington. Mrytle Eddington married John Thomas Armentrout December 24, 1922, who was the son of Clarence Lincoln and Ida Emma (Towell)Armentrout, who was born November11,1898. They originally lived on the Armentrout farm in Witt, that was settled by John's great grandfather, Christopher Ermentraudt, who came to Illinois by covered wagon, with his family in 1838. It was this generation that would change the spelling of the name Ermentraudt to Armentrout. John's great, great, great grandfather Christopher Ermentraudt was born in Palatinate, present day West Germany along the Rhine River, in 1724-1725. Christopher arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 27, 1739 aboard the English vessel "Samuel". Christopher Ermentraudt provided needed supplies to the Virginia Militia and was honored for his acts of patriotism by the DAR in 1929. Later, when John and Myrtle (Eddington) Armentrout were of retirement age and due to the fact that John had no sons, John Thomas Armentrout would sell the Armentrout Homestead in Witt and move to Irving, Il. Olin Clayton, John's grandson, still owns a 40 acre tract of land facing the original Armentrout homestead, and it was purchased from its owner, Alta Armentrout, the wife of Russell H. Armentrout. Lavonne Merle Armentrout, daughter of John and Myrtle Alice (Eddington)Armentrout, was born April 2, 1925. Lavonne married Dale Clayton, son of Charles Leo and Suavilla Isadora (Hulbert) Clayton, on March 1, 1945 at the Armentrout farm. Dale Clayton was born August 1, 1924 in Nokomis, Il. Dale Clayton's great grandfather was Henry Clayton, who was born in England in 1852. Henry Clayton and Abigail Chapman were married November 22, 1875 in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio. Henry Clayton would die of typhoid fever on September 21, 1878 in Oberlin, Ohio. His widow Abigail (Chapman) Clayton, who was born July 30, 1854 in Elgin, Il, the daughter of David Chapman, later married Dr. William H. Geddy, the son ofWilliam R. Geddy, on July 9, 1884 in Erie, Pennsylvania. Dr. William H. Geddy served in the Civil War with Company D, 178th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He died on March 18, 1912 in Nokomis, Il. The information about Henry Clayton was found in Dr. Geddy's pension records. Dale's father Leo Clayton, was delivered by Dr. Geddy. Charles "Leo" Clayton's birth record is on file in the Montgomery County Courthouse. Dale Clayton's mother was Suavilla Isadora Hulbert, daughter of Warren Franklin and Lulu Luetta (Gage) Hulbert. Lulu Gage was the 2nd great grandaughter of Walter Gage and the 3rd great grandaughter of William Montgomery Gage. Walter served as a Private in the Revolutionary War under Captains Calkins and Ormsby for the state of Vermont. William Montgomery Gage was a Captain heading the Vermont militia. William Montgomery Gage's sons Joseph, John, Isaac and William Jr, also served in the Revolutionary War under Captain Stephen Calkins, excepting Isaac, who served under his father. See Vermont Archives in Montpelier, Vermont for records. Suavilla (Hulbert) Clayton's grandfather, Warren Moses Hulbert, married as his fourth wife, Martha Traylor. Martha Traylor was the great grandaughter of Humphrey Traylor, a Virginia plantation and slave owner. He served in the Revolutionary War at King's Mountain, Virginia under Captain Isaac Shelby. Humphrey's brother Joseph and his son Jessee also served in the Revolutionary War. A microfilm history of the Traylor Family is available for viewing through the Richmond, Virginia State Archives. Humphrey Traylor Jrs will, shows distribution of several slaves to his children and his son James, who moved to Montgomery County, Il in the 1840's, along with his son Caleb, was given the following as stated: "I give and bequeath to my son James, the plantation whereon I now live and the 20 acres being the residue of the 100 acres bought of George Pegram, to him and his heirs forever". James was the only child not given slaves, all others were. Humphrey Traylor's father was Humphrey Traylor Sr., who left his son Humphrey Traylor Jr the following:
"To my son Humphrey, 50 acres of land surveyed November 10, 1787". William Traylor, left his son Humphrey Traylor Sr the following: " and save my old negro fellow "Jack", which I give to my son Humphrey Traylor after my demise".

Kenneth Melvin Clayton, the first born of Dale and Lavonne (Armentrout) Clayton,was born January 9, 1948, and was first married to Thi Con Nguyen, "Mai", who was born in Da Nang, Viet Nam and they were later divorced in 1991. Kenneth served in the Air Force during the Viet Nam conflict, in the 37th Air Rescue Recovery Squadron, whose primary task was to retrieve wounded serviceman in areas of conflict. Kenneth was stationed in Da Nang, Viet Nam. Kenneth became employed with Catepillar in Decatur, Il, after returning from Viet Nam and on his 20 Year Anniversary, was unjustly locked out by the company. After almost a year on the picket-line, Kenneth returned to work briefly on January 9, 1996, the day of his birthday, he and 40 others were unjustly discharged, due to their number of years of seniority, which the company greedily targeted, as an avenue for cutbacks. Not a very fair trade for a man who served his country and received no "Welcome Home" from those he fought to protect and the company/union he served faithfully for 20 years, gave no compassion, no justice, no concern, no financial restitution, for an employees sweat and blood. But Kenneth's spirit is strong and he was born a survivor and he has the love and support of his family, to see him through whatever comes. Kenneth later married Ruth Kulenkamp on July 16, 1994, the daughter of Kenneth and Emma (Schroll) Kulenkamp and they reside in Irving, Il. Kenneth and Mai were the parents of the following children:

Merle Everett Clayton, the son of Dale and Lavonne (Armentrout) Clayton, born April 28, 1949. Merle served in the Air Force, stationed in the Phillipines, as an electronics specialist during the time of the Viet Nam Conflict. Merle first married Debra Wrachford on July 20, 1973, the daughter of Willis Harold and Launa Merdede (Weaver) Wrachford. Merle and Debra had 2 sons:

Merle and Debra divorced, and years later he married Shirley Grishom and adopted her son Bill from a previous relationship, and they were later divorced. Merle later married Debbie Hiller on October 10, 1989. Debbie was born March 31, 1958 and is the daughter of Russell Frederick and Audrey Merdell (Keiser). Merle and Debbie reside in Harvel, Il and Debbie has a Masters Degree in Business. Merle is employed in the mining industry at this time. They are the parents of two children from Debbie's previous relationship:

Olin Dale Clayton, son of Dale and Lavonne (Armentrout) Clayton, was born March 20, 1951. Olin first married Hazel Hedburg, in Chicago, Il, but were divorced in July of 1975 and no children were born to that union. Olin later met Barbara Elaine Hayes on August 3, 1976 (actually spelled Hays), the daughter of Dewey Carroll and Florence Bertha (Altevogt) Hayes (actually spelled Hays, "e" was added in this generation), who was born June 23, 1958 in Springfield, Il. Olin and Barbara met on August 3, 1976 and were married August 6, 1976, in Witt, Il. They spent their honeymoon in Niagra Falls, N.Y. Olin was first employed with Continental Bank of Chicago, Il, as a Bank Supervisor over the Florsheim Building Lock Box Division for 7 years. After Olin and Barbara married, they decided to move back to their home roots, and Olin became employed with Hillsboro Glass in 1977, where he has remained, as a Lehr Tender Machine Repairman for almost 20 years. Olin became actively involved in the Labor Movement, Olin is presently in his third term as President of USWA Local 4369, Vice President of Macoupin/Montgomery County Trades and Labor Council, Financial Treasurer Cope District 20 and was elected 2nd Vice President of Springfield Trades and Labor Council Central Body on January 30, 1996. Barbara was a licensed Cosmetologist at the time of their marriage and ran a beauty shop in her home for approximately 10 years, before beginning college in 1987 at Lincolnland Community College, Springfield College in Illinois, and St. John's School of Nursing, all in Springfield, Il, graduating Phi Theta Kappa in 1990. Barbara presently works as a traveling RN. On August 21, 1997, the very night of the Old Settler's Parade, Hillsboro Glass in Hillsboro, Il, was sold by it's new owner, Iranian born, John Gahznavi. Olin had been employed with Hillsboro Glass for over 20 years. On October 1, 1997 Olin Clayton and his brother Kenneth Clayton, became employed with Bridgestone/Firestone Tire in Decatur, Il. Olin will still remain a member of United Steelworkers of America, but his new Local is 713. Olin and Barbara have two children:

Andrew Clayton has graduated from Raymond Lincolnwood High School in Raymond, Il in 1999, and
Belinda Clayton graduated from Raymond Lincolnwood High School on May 30, 1997.
Belinda has recently become engaged as of Christmas of 1998
Belinda was the recipient of the Arion Award at Raymond Lincolnwood High School, for Leadership and Outstanding Vocal and Band Achievement in May of 1997. The award is presented to one graduating senior annually. Andrew Clayton is a Junior in 1998. Belinda was a third year Spanish student, Spanish Club member for 3 years, on the Lancer Banner Newspaper Staff, a 3 year Art Club member, 3 year Youth and Government Club alumni, 4-H and Drama Club member. Belinda played the lead role in her Junior Year Drama production called "Halos". Andrew is presently a 3rd year Spanish student, a member of Spanish Club, 2nd year Youth & Government Club member and S.A.D.D. Belinda is presently employed with Po Folks Restaurant in Litchfield, Il in 1999 and will be moving to Ames, Iowa in August 1999.

The fourth child of Dale and Lavonne (Armentrout) Clayton was Anita Elaine Clayton, who was born November 26, 1952, marrying Loy Wahlsmith on May 18, 1974 in Witt, Il, the son of Ernest William and Ruth Irene (Campbell) Wahlsmith. Loy Wahlsmith was born May 13, 1952. Loy and Anita are parents of Clay Williams Wahlsmith, born October 5, 1977 and Sandy Jolene Wahlsmith, born January 11, 1980.
The fifth child of Dale and Lavonne (Armentrout) Clayton, was Yvonne Marie Clayton, born July 21, 1956. Yvonne married Arthur Hicks on June 23, 1973 in Witt, Il, the son of Clifford Anthony and Maggie Bell (Jackson) Hicks. "Artie" Hicks was born March 16, 1654. Artie and "Bonnie" are parents of Bonnie Jeanette Hicks, born February 6, 1974 and Lisa Annette Hicks, born June 18, 1977. Bonnie Jeanette Hicks married Danny Cantrell on July 24, 1993 in Pana, Il, the son of Doyle Ray and Donna Marie (Green) Cantrell. Danny Cantrell was born June 1, 1968.Danny has two daughters and one son from a previous marriage, Amanda Renee Cantrell,born December 23, 1985, Ryan Daniel Cantrell, born August 7, 1987 and Kristen Leann Cantrell, born November 7, 1991. Lisa Annette Hicks married Zaylon Bartimus on July 26, 1997, in Pana, Il, the son of Jack and Jeanie (Stanton) Bartimus. Lisa graduated from Pana High School on June 2, 1995. She attended Lake Land Community College the summer of 1996 and graduated with a Diploma in Cosmetology.
The sixth child of Dale and Lavonne (Armentrout) Clayton is James Dean Clayton, born February 3, 1959 in Hillsboro, Il. James married Lori Young on July 19, 1980 at St.Agnes Parish in Hillsboro, Il. Lori is the daughter of Marion Deon and Wilma Jean (Engeling) Young and was born April 30, 1960. James and Lori (Young) Clayton are parents of a daughter named Leslie Jean Clayton, born July 5, 1986. James and Lori are engaged in farming and James is also employed by his sister Janice Volentine, owner of Volentine's Towing Service in Litchfield, Il. Leslie Clayton enjoys tumbling and has won several awards for doing so.
The seventh child of Dale and Lavonne (Armentrout) Clayton is Lester Norman Clayton, born July 13, 1960 in Hillsboro, Il. Lester married Frankie Kathleen Fox, daughter of Dennis Ray and Sylvia Lou (Altevogt) Fox, on October 12, 1985 and again on February 14, 1990 and were twice divorced. Frankie Kathleen (Fox) Clayton was born October 6, 1965. Lester and Kathy are parents of Derek Ray Clayton, born January 27, 1985 and Christi Nicole Clayton, born March 17, 1987. Lester resides in Irving, Il and is Fire Chief of that city.
The eighth child of Dale and Lavonne (Armentrout) Clayton is Gail Irene Clayton, born March 21, 1962 in Hillsboro, Il. Gail married Alan Randall on September 15, 1984 in Witt, Il, at the Witt United Methodist Church. Alan Randall is the son of Carl Randall and Marilyn Mancini. Alan and Gail were later divorced, with no children born to that union. Gail married Chuck Kessler on August 20, 1988, the son of James Henry and Ethel E. (Marshall) Kessler. Chuck was born August 17, 1958. Chuck and Gail Kessler are the parents of Jessica Joyce Kessler, born October 2, 1990 and Charlene Abigail Kessler,born February 7, 1992.
The ninth child of Dale and Lavonne (Armentrout) Clayton is Janice Eileen Clayton, born October 29, 1963 in Hillsboro, Il. Janice married Brian Volentine, son of Udell and Lois (Ernst) Volentine, on December 11, 1982 in Witt, Il at the Witt United Methodist Church. Brian was born April 17, 1959. Brian and Janice are parents of Joshua Dale Volentine, born August 9, 1983 and April Nicole Volentine, born November 20, 1986. Brian and Janice are owners of Brian's Auto in Litchfield, Il.
Imogene Myrtle Armentrout, the daughter of John and Myrtle (Eddington) Armentrout, was born June 29, 1930 and married Robert Durbin, in October of 1949, the son of Walter and Thelma (Rebman) Durbin. They were the parents of the following children:
Roberta Gail Durbin born November 13,1951 and married Duane White, son of Lloyd and Loretta White, on August 12, 1972. Roberta and Duane have three children, Christopher Allan White, born May 21, 1974, Timothy Aaron White, born October 3, 1977 and Samantha Gail White, born November 18, 1980.
Kim Douglas Durbin born February 25, 1953 and married Laura Jean Huber, daughter of Lawrence and Marilou (Celenius) Huber, on September 8, 1973. Kim and Laura are parents of Brett Douglas Durbin, born January 27, 1975, Heather Michele Durbin, born October 22, 1977, Eric Michael Durbin, born May 24, 1981 and Kristin Nicole Durbin, born August 27, 1982.
Connie Nadine Durbin was born March 13,1955 and married Donald Smalley, son of Wayne and Betty Smalley, on July 1, 1973. Donald and Connie are parents of Michael Lee Smalley, born November 18, 1973 and David Justin Smalley, born September 8, 1977. Michael Lee Smalley, son of Donald and Connie Smalley, married Laura Miller of Witt,daughter of Ron and Linda (Barr) Miller, on October 18, 1997.
Roger Dean Durbin was born December 9, 1956 and married Carol Sue Hamrock, daughter of Paul and Faye (Davidson) Hamrock, on March 10, 1974. Juanita Faye Armentrout, daughter of John and Myrtle (Eddington) Armentrout, born January 1, 1933, married Ben Casebier on April 1,1963, the son of Ben and Essie (Harris) Casebier, born January 9,1926 and they had no children.
Elmer Eddington, son of Thomas and Sarah Sophia (Eddington) Eddington, was born October 28, 1890, and on November 11, 1914, he would marry Luella Compton, daughter of Henry and Lily (Sides) Compton. Luella died January 16, 1975 at Golden Manor Nursing Home in Nokomis, Il. Elmer Eddington died in Hillsboro Hospital on August 19, 1965. Elmer and Luella were parents of the following children:
Vivian Lucille Eddington born October 3, 1915, married Wayne Sievers on April 17,1934, the son of William and Gertrude (Clements) Sievers.

Kenneth Murray Eddington born November 6, 1920, was married first to Laura LaVough Skinner was divorced and later married Eleanor Krizek.

Vivian Lucille Eddington, daughter of Elmer and Luella (Compton) Eddington, born October 3, 1915, married Wayne Sievers on April 17, 1934, son of William and Gertrude (Clements) Sievers, who was born on June 28, 1910. Wayne Sievers died, and Vivian still survives at the time of this writing in 1996. Wayne and Vivian were parents of the following children:
