The photo below is of William Irvin, the paternal 3rd great grandfather of Barb (Hays) Clayton,in his Civil War uniform. William Irvin served in the Civil War as a Blacksmith with Company E, 6th Illinois Cavalry. The original photo belongs to the descendants of Simeon Irvin, who presently live in San Antonio, Texas. Simeon Irvin was the brother of Elzirah (Irvin) Hays, the daughter of William Irvin. William Irvin is buried in Bethel Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Il and a new military stone will be erected in the late summer or fall of 1999. A memorial service for William Irvin, will be held on October 2, 1999, with the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Mary Todd Lincoln Tent #48, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, General John A. McClernand Camp #4, both of Springfield, Il will be in attendance, along with Barb (Hays) Clayton, William Irvins 3rd great grandaughter, who is also a member of Descendants of Mexican War Veterans. Also expected to attend will be the Christian County VFW and the Women's Relief Corp of Springfield, Il. All Civil War Re-inacters will also be invited!
