Apples au Gratin

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Rinse and strain the sauerkraut.
  2. Sauté the onions in the butter until clear and soft.
  3. Add the dry mustard and sauerkraut. Heat through and set aside.
  4. Toss the sliced apples with the flour, spices, and honey.
  5. Mix the cheese, bread crumbs, and chopped nuts. Set aside 1 cup.
  6. Mix the cheese, bead crumbs, and nuts in with the apples.
  7. Mix in the sauerkraut and onions.
  8. Put everything in a shallow casserole dish.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining bread crumb and cheese mixture over the top.
  10. Bake at 350°F for 40 min until the top is crispy.

Theory of the Dish

I got this from "The Enchanted Broccoli Forest" by Mollie Katzen. This is a savory side dish not a desert.
