The history of our city is colorful and industious. The Indians founded our shores and settled. The hunters and gatheres used our vast lake for fishing and hunted our now Washington Park. The Pullman famlily, Barker family, supplied culture and industry. The Palmer family supplied milk and cream. Master Palmer taught school in a one room school house located in Waterford, Coolspring Township. Our Representives have served us to their fullest capacity in preserving our lands. Our business community have served in prservaton of our beautiful lake and wetlands. There were many families who devoted their daily lives to the developement of our now wonderful progressive city. Heres hopeing you will look at my home town and find a point of interest.

"THE SMOKING DUNE"

"Mt. Baldy one of the largest dunes in the southern shore of Lake Michigan is 123 feet tall and is advancing inland at a rate of 4 to 5 feet per year. Northwest winds move Mt. Baldy inland, slowly burying the forest just south of the dune. Viewed from a distance, the sand blowing off the top of Mt. Baldy appears as wisps of smoke, thus the term "smoking dune".

"Michigan City Zoo"

Michigan City Zoo is a wonderful place for children to meet the animal world. To use their senses, touch, smell, sight, and hearing to experience and relate to an animal kingdom, just large enough for them. The guardian of the child reaps the benifits of the depiction of the sounds the children share. The wonderful odor of the animal kingdom, and the descriptions of the animals through a childs' eyes!
