Chapter 16

Into the wee hours of the morning they talked. It was like a never ending night. The energy from Alexa flowed through Katti's body. There was no tiring no limit to the conversation. Katti was just overwhelmed at how wonderful she felt sitting there snuggled up on the sofa in the middle of nowhere. The bright light of the moon shined upon the grounds out side. Katti would look over through the glass was and view the silence around them. Coming upon the grounds earlier it felt strange. The grounds were surrounded by a wired fence at least 10 feet tall. Signs every so often warning of being electrified. The gates opened by electronic timers also. It seemed like a compound almost. Katti had a slight apprehensive of entering the grounds. It seemed that such seclusion was a little over done. Once on the grounds dogs came from all directions to meet the vehicles. Then the sight of the horses running loose in the grounds. The jeep moved very slowly up the long lane...almost a road. A golden horse stepped out from the tree lined area....Katti watched as Alexa's arm went out the window of her vehicle. Something she was holding in the hand. The golden horse came right up to the moving car, and nibbled at the hand. Alexa reached and patted the nose as the horse walked beside the jeep all the way to the house. As they rounded the bend of the road the house came barn came into sight and the land cleared. Wide, flat and green. Like a luscious carpet the grass spread over the land. The barn was long and new and very impressive Katti noticed...that there were a few horses in paddocks connected to the front of the barn. Yet most of the horses seemed to be just loose. Alexa continued past the barn and around another bend of the road, the view of the house was a surprise to Katti. The three three level structure built off the side of the cliff to the water. It was surprising modern for the country life. All sharp corners and modern lines to its structure. A kind of Chinese touch to it. The drive wrapped again around the front of the house and on this level the house looked much smaller. You could only see two levels at this angel. Yet the grounds made an impressive view of the home. The front doors were double hung glass doors. Alexa pulled the jeep up in front of the circular drive and opened the door. The golden horse was still there. Alexa stepped out and from the left of the house came a dark brown horse, not quite as large but very beautiful still. The horse just walked up to Alexa and she started to pet him. With the dogs there all around her...the two horses just standing there in front of her house a smile crossed Katti's lips. This is the strangest sight I have ever seen she thought to her self.

Alexa motioned for Katti to get out. As Katti approached Alexa stated:

"This is Thunder" she patted the golden horse. "he is a big baby. This here is Ibn, a very special horse in his own right" then she reached out and petted him.

"You can pet them if you like" she said.

The thought of such a big animal always frightened Katti, yet she put out her hand and ran it down the massive neck of Ibn.

"Wow" Katti cooed "he is so gentle"

"Oh yes they are all gentle, my gentle giants" Alexa called them. "They greet me every time I come through the gates. These guys down here" she reached to pat several dogs heads " are my body guards hehehe."

Both girls laughed and that broke the pressure of the meeting. Now here they were sitting hours later like two girls that knew each other for all their lives. Katti felt she could tell Alexa anything.

Alexa knew Katti had been a bit uncomfortable at first. Perhaps felt out of place. She wanted Katti to feel at ease and at home. So she took her time in letting Katti choose the base and leads in the conversation. She also knew that Katti was on the verge of a breakdown if things didn't change. Somehow Alexa had always been good at reading people. She felt that Katti need guidance and shown the path back to GOD. Alexa being very close to the lord knew it was her duty in life to do what she could to bring about such things. So Alexa listened to every word Katti said...sometimes reading between the lines. Sometimes asking questions. With the weekend facing them, the time was of no essence.

Katti talked of Heather, of Joel or life in general she even told things she would not share with any other human being. She came to Besher. Alexa knew Besher, she hadn't known there was such a relationship building between the two. In fact she was quite surprised to find out that Besher had went so far to say he was a married man. Yet he himself must have had his reasons. All people do things, but there is always a reason behind it. Alexa listened with interest. Sometime in the early morning hours Katti dozed off. Alexa decided not to wake her. Laying a warm blanket over the girl....Alexa left Katti sleeping curled up on the white sofa in the big open sitting room.

Alexa made her way down to the barn for morning feeding. Her mind was pondering the problems of Katti and how she might serve in helping the poor girl. As she watched all the horses come into the barn and one by one they went into their stalls for morning feed. She marveled at the sight of her horses. How intelligent they really were. She watched as they all found their own place. Horses were smart creatures. Each had its own place in line. Like a pecking order and as long as none stepped out of line then all was well. Yet if one stepped out of line...there were others that corrected it. This way they were taught to have manors and respect for each other. Above all Alexa loved them and they loved her. So it made since she did her best thinking when around them. The sound of hooves clicking on the cement walkway in the isles of the barn was like music to her ears.

Alexa knew what she would have to do.  After chores and some petting she slipped back into the house and into the shower without making a sound. She decided to make a bagel and tea before setting her plan in motion. With tea in hand Alexa picked up the phone. 1
