Chapter II

Katti, again and again thanked her lucky stars that Joel was there for her. He was heaven sent to her. Tall, good-looking, educated, and he loved her. Every since that night he slipped into the ladies room, the night her brother went to jail, the night she couldn't help herself. Joel was there, that afternoon to help her out of the court room, and then later in the rest room to help her put herself together. He had come right into the ladies room against her request to stay out. He told her if someone need to use the facility they would have to wait, or be his guest. He wasn't leaving until he made sure she was ok. Joel did just that he made sure Katti was ok. He took her home that evening, and they sat and talked for hours. She spilt out her whole life story, to his eager ears. As the sun came up Joel was still there sitting in Katti's kitchen. "Well I have to get going, as much as I don't want to, work calls" Joel smiled down at her as he stood to leave. Katti thanked him, rising to walk him to the door. Standing there in the dim hallway with little light to show the way she smiled up at him for the hundredth time that night. Somehow he just brought the smile to her face. "Thank you so much" she said. "No thanks needed" came his reply. Joel wanted to reach down and kiss her pretty lips, the pouty one at the bottom just yelled out for attention. Yet he couldn't take advantage of the situation, he was much to much of a gentleman for that. And besides he knew he was coming back again and again...there would be plenty of time for kissing. With Joel gone Katti sat about picking up the place, feeling slightly better, she ran some bath water. Katti was hoping the hot water would take away some of the aches and pains she felt. Maybe somehow she could get on a different track of thing. Get her life back in order. Slipping into the steaming water....Katti let out a low coo as she lowered her body into the tub. The water seemed to take her mind off of things.....then again maybe it didn't. Katti closed her eyes and Joel was there.....she could see him slipping his head around the bathroom door. She saw the smile on his face, and his eyes light up as he spotted her there. Katti couldn't control this situation any more than she could any other one. Her mind went off on a fantasy of thoughts. Such thoughts that only she could imagine. The day was cold outside, drizzling rain, yet here inside her apartment, in this tub of steamy warm water, Katti was lost in dreams. Joel after leaving Katti's apartment, couldn't stop thinking about her. Damn she was gorgeous, small waste, long legged, flowing blonde hair that hit her shoulders, and the color of crystals in aqua blue pools for eyes. He heard about falling in love at first sight, but could this be happening to him. After all he was a professional, an attorney. That's what he was doing there in the court room. Katti didn't even know it yet but he, Joel was responsible for putting her brother behind bars. Damn, what was he going to do. He wanted to see more of her, yet if he told her, it was him that caused her misery, would she still speak to him. Would she give him a chance, to explain what was going on in his mind. And just what was going on there. He seen her there, just a girl, not even with much class he thought, yet when they sat at the kitchen table, he couldn't help thinking about how much class she really had. How well she carried herself. "Hmmmmmm" he would just have to work around it, he wasn't going to let her get away. Joel was a man that new what he wanted and he wanted Katti. Months passed, sweet blissful months of getting to know each other. Joel made it his daily habit of getting together with Katti every evening. They went to dinner, sometimes a movie, the opera, a play or two, and then there were the nights of just staying at home enjoying each others company. Katti loved cooking for Joel, it was pure pleasure to watch him devour his food then curl up in the big chair in the living room to read. Katti also took advantage of this time to do some reading herself. Joel talked her into starting college. Yes it seemed the best thing that could ever happen to her was meeting Joel, so it should have been no shock to her when late one evening after they made love, Joel laid with Katti in his arms, saying "God, it couldn't get any better than this can it babe". "NO" she whispered. "I agree so I guess we should just get married to insure it continues". Katti laid there a few seconds not realizing just what took place. Then all of a sudden she jumped up, straddled his chest, looking down at him. "Did you just ask me to marry you" she demanded to know. Joel had his eyes closed and seen no reason to open them. "Did you" she put her hands on his chest, "Did you ask me or not". "Ask you what?" he teased. "Damn it did you ask me to marry you Joel McGarth". Laughing and pulling her to him, Joel rolled her over until he was on top of her, with his legs dangled to the side...eyes wide open. "Katti McGarth, has a nice ring to it doesn't it", he stated with glee in his voice,"Yes it does, so what do you say Katti? Will you marry me?" he asked: You could have heard the squeal from down the street....."YESSSSSSSS " she shouted.
