Three week's had passed Katti was looking so much better. Her complection was blossoming, along with putting on some weight. She got up every morning and cleaned her apartment, had a bite to eat, even ventured outside to walk on most of the mornings now. Feeling more like her old self Katti was excited about the prospects of seeing her daughter. Right after lunch, Katti picked up the telephone and dialed her mother-inlaws house. On the third ring like always Donna picked up the phone. "Hello" pause "Hello, who's there" Donna repeated into the phone. Not a sound, yet she felt someone was on the line. About to hang up the receiver, Donna heard the faint whisper of a voice. Quivering Katti cried "please don't hang up" "Oh my God, is that you Katherine" Donna was shaking as he held the phone in her hand. It had been over two years since she had tried to speak to Katti. Two year since her last try, but even longer since Katti acknowledged her. "Katti, is that you" she cried. "Yes mother it's me" a long pause in the line on both sides. Sobs came from Kati "I loved him so much mom. I still miss him." "Yes my dear, I know, we all know, but he is gone and we can't bring him back no matter what. You know Katti dear, Joel was a strong man, he had a wonderful love of life and of you, he would have wanted you to go on." Donna was crying her words came out in almost a plee. Both woman sobbed into the phone both talking and talking. Katti, didn't know how she would be treated by this woman that she called mother. Rejection would have been the most common feeling in this situation. but no Donna was warm and loving, and she cried with Katti in understanding. Both women shared a lost love of the same man. Katti for her husband and Donna for her son. The afternoon slipped away, they were still sharing information. "Oh my goodness I have to get going Little Heather is going to be here any minute." Donna said. Another pause in the line. Donna knew what was going on in Katti's head. She knew there would come a day that Katti would ask about Heather. Just why in God's name did it have to take so long. "It's ok Katti, I understand what you went through" Donna whispered into the phone. "But will Heather" came Katt's reply. Donna didn't know what to say, Heather was a strange child, on the quiet side. A wonderful loving child yet still she held thoughts back. and Donna knew these were thoughts of her mother. For a long time now she never asked about her mother. Not wanting to speak of her. Never saying anything against her mother yet not wanting to know anything about her. Yes Donna thought to herself it was going to be very hard for Katti to come face to face with her daughter. Everyday the two women talked now. Sometimes even laughing, sometimes crying. They shared stories of Heathers growing up. Donna wanted Katti to come over and meet Heather. Katti felt it was to soon. she needed more time. "Alright honey, you take your time, I know you will be alright now" Donna would say. Daily Katti's physical appearance changed. With each day came new hopes of meeting her daughter. Katti had a wonderful little girl with hair of gold and big blue eye's. She was told that Heathers nose and some of her expressions were like Joel's. God how could she have missed so much. How could she not want what was left of Joel. Ohhhhhh how Katti's heart hurt, not for herself now but for the little girl that had grown sour of hearing her mothers name. Why should Heather love her, or want her why should she accept her. At no time in Heathers life did Katti try to accept the little girl. So fair play what goes around comes around. Katti knew this was going to be the hardest thing in her whole life. Becoming a mother.
