1. Composition of militia
Section 1. The militia of the state of Arizona shall consist of all able-bodied male citizens of the state between the ages of eighteen and forty-five years, and of those between said ages who shall have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States, residing therein, subject to such exemptions as now exist, or as may hereafter be created, by the laws of the United States or of this state.
Do you remember the old Star Trek episode when Kirk was accused of jettisoning a pod with a crew member in it? Later it was found that the guy had a revenge thing going for Kirk and faked the whole thing in the computer's logs.
Well the part that always stuck with me was the fact that Kirk's lawyer used books. His room was filled with books books books. He didn't trust the pasturized versions that came from computers.
I bring this up because as time goes on, we will make ourselves more and more reliant on the printed word as it has been trascribed by some government employee into hypertext and then pulled off the net as gospel.
I remember the words to be resident and intenting to be a resident of the State of Arizona. I'm sure I must be wrong and that the government isn't this stupid to try something like this this early in the computer age..... but they will try it sooner or later and we must be ready to go back to the real printed page to keep them in line.
If it is "citizens of the state" then what/where is the definition of that phrase? "Those... who have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States, residing therein,...." How do you "declare" and to who? Would a Declaration of Intent filed with the County Recorder be enough? "Residing therein", therein where? The United States or Arizona?
I have an old copy of the Arizona State Constitution somewhere. If one of you have it handy, take a quick look please and see what it says.

the webmaster adds the following comments.
ernie tells us at the libertarian party meetings that just to fuck with the state, and the media some libertarian party members submited an iniative to change this militia section and to make it polictally correct.
they added the word WILLING in it because libertarians dont force people to join militia.
and they removed the word MALE because libertarians dont discriminated against FEMALEs and not allow them to join the militia.
Section 1. The militia of the state of Arizona shall consist of all WILLING able-bodied (MALE was deleted from here) citizens of the state between the ages of eighteen and forty-five years, and of those between said ages who shall have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States, residing therein, subject to such exemptions as now exist, or as may hereafter be created, by the laws of the United States or of this state.
ernie says when the media and the government saw it they had a heart attack because those crazy libertarians wanted to have a state militia. and they bashed us in the media for wanting to have a militia.
but after the media was told that we that arizona already has a militia and the libertarians just wanted to changed 2 words to make it politically correct they felt like idiots. duped again by the libertarians.
