For those of you who are less familiar with gun technology, my understanding is that all gun parts made out of sophisticated polymers (basically really strong plastics) do not hold fingerprints. This includes many innovative (and ugly) designs such as Glocks, Smith & Wesson's Sigma series and SIG-Sauer's new SIGPRO. Banning the use of polymers in current or future gun design would be like banning the use of plastics in current or future car design.
In addition, my understanding is that all guns are notoriously awful places to pick up fingerprints. That is to say, it's only done in the movies. But how long has reality affected American public policy?
