BOSTON (AP) - President Clinton appealed to Congress on Tuesday to begin the new century with a fresh slate on gun control, saying "commonsense gun safety" should be the first item on this year's congressional agenda.
Clinton requested the lawmakers' support for a $280 million package of ew gun safety and enforcement programs that he will propose in his budget package.
And he asked that they "start this new century by abandoning another stale debate" about whether the government should enforce existing gun aws stronger or fight crime and prevent firearms accidents through new gun-control laws.

No we shouldn't. We should make the government get back in its' cage and obey the Constitution. Let your Sen/Reps know what you think. Pay attention to what Barney Frank says at the bottom of the article:
Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., applauded as Clinton made that appeal. But Frank gave a sober assessment afterward of whether Republicans can be persuaded to support the new gun proposals.
"It depends on public pressure," Frank said. "The Republicans are torn. Their primary electorate doesn't want them to do it, but I think the public wants them to do it."
He's talking about YOU! You are the "Primary electorate." I guess that beats 'Gun Lobby' or 'extremist Right.' Let'em have it!
