Could be. They would have been better off stating that 12/31/99 was to be a day of Judgement, that way when nothing happened, they could say that we had earned a reprieve of another thousand years.

Besides, If I read the prophecies right, Armageddon is supposed to occur two thousand years after Christ's death. So how did they ever come up with 12/31/99 as the one true day?
