Remarks

On Saturday, September 2, 2000 Steelville was host to a ceremony that has been repeated in Yadkin Valley since well before the Civil War. The officers of the Lodge, having been duly elected by the 150 members, were installed into their respective offices for the comming year.

The Steelville Lodge is part of the centuries old Masonic Order. This writer believes the best description of this organization is a "system of morals, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols". While certainly not a religion, all members share a belief in the one living true God.

The organization is sometimes best know for the aprons and regalia worn by its members and the unusual titles given the officers. For example, the Worshipful Master of a Lodge would simply be called President in most organizations.

The dress and the fact meetings are only open to members is only designed to help set the organization apart from civic groups.

One of the foremost goals of Masonry is to futher build the character of known good men that have been inclined to seek membership. The Lodge is always ready to welcome new applicants if they make their desire known to a member.

Wor. Bro. Kem L. Schwieder
