First, let me give credit where credit is due. This interesection is only here because of the need for an access road to the International Exposition Center, known locally as "The IX Center."
The IX Center is located adjacent to the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. While Hopkins is in the City of Cleveland, the IX Center is in the City of Brook Park. This has caused much legal and legislative wrangling in recent years... If you want to read more about that, check out The Plain Dealer website, which includes articles and op/ed pieces about the battle over airport expansion.
Here is the IX Center signboard, located just before the interesection of Ohio Route 237 and IX Center Road.
Once you have turned on to IX Center Road (AFTER the signboard) from OH RT 237, you pass the IX Jet Center entrance on the right.
Please don't get confused -- these pictures were taken from the opposite direction.
Then you pass the actual IX Center.
Once past the IX Center proper, the road narrows and you dog leg to the intersection of IX Center Road and Grayton Road, where you can "stop" your car and view incoming and departing air traffic from the end of the Runways 6/24.
Here's a selection of planes from August, 2000...
Of course, my favorite subject is Continental Airlines Flight 66, Cleveland's only non-stop flight to Europe (CLE-LGW).
That day, CO66 left on schedule.
Here's an example of the usual view you get at this location - over the fence.
Folks, that there is a CRJ! :)
Here's a series when I realized CO66 was coming in. Of course it's a Continental 757-200 as usual. I'm just enamored with that aircraft. These photos were taken on October 28, 2000.
What a beaut!! =)
It's difficult to get these pictures because... Well, I am usually at the 100th Bomb Group Restaurant when 24L/24R are in use. I will try to get some pics from this viewpoint as well.
