Who flies to/from Cleveland? Or, Passenger Airlines

Hopkins serves as a primary hub for Continental Airlines and Continental Express. Although not officially a hub carrier, Southwest Airlines dominates traffic on Concourse B. Other regularly scheduled airlines and their destinations can be found through the the official Cleveland Hopkins International Airport website or on my (somewhat up-to-date) Spotters reference airline list.

What else flies to/from Cleveland? Or, Cargo & Ad-Hoc Airlines

Hopkins receives service from several major cargo carriers in addition to passenger carrier cargo services.

When do I go? Or, Overview of Flight Schedules

All references are to Eastern Time. Ohio observes Daylight Savings Time from March until October.

Hopkins is a medium-sized airport with big-city service and a small-town feel. Continental Airlines maintains a hub here and all other major airlines except Alaska Airlines have some service (American Eagle is available for the American Airlines network.)
Hopkins has only limited service between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:30 AM. The last "commuter" flights on Continental Express and Continental Connection leave between 8:30 and 9:30 PM. After 10:00 PM, most passenger traffic consists of arriving flights. The last scheduled passenger flight arrives just after 1:00 AM.
Passenger service recommences with a few departures at 5:30 AM. The first arrivals of the morning begin at about 6:30 AM.

Since Hopkins is a hub for Continental Airlines, there is daily service to most major cities in the United States and eastern Canada. Continental Express also provides daily jet service to smaller cities and regional airports, some as far as Texas. Continental Connection provides regional service to smaller airports with turboprop aircraft. Most Continental Express and Continental Connection service includes at least one morning and one evening flight to each location.

Other airlines provide non-stop service to the following cities (where you may connect or continue to other cities).

  • Northwest Airlines to Detroit (Metro), Michigan and Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota.
  • Northwest Airlink:
  • Southwest Airlines to Baltimore/Washington, Maryland; Chicago (Midway), Illinois; Las Vegas, Nevada; Nashville, Tennessee; Orlando, Florida; Phoenix, Arizona, and Saint Louis, Missouri.
  • United Airlines to Chicago (O'Hare), Illinois.
  • United Express:
    • Mesa Airlines to Chicago (O'Hare), Illinois and Washington (Dulles), D.C.-Virginia.
    • Sky West to Chicago (O'Hare), Illinois and Denver, Colorado.
  • USAirways to Charlotte, North Carolina; Las Vegas, Nevada and Phoenix, Arizona.
  • USAirways Express:
  • USA3000 Airlines to Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Fort Myers, Florida; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Why should I fly to/from Cleveland? Or, A View of The Comeback City

Cleveland is a wonderful city to visit. It is a large city on the edge of (or some would say within) the Midwest. It is located half-way between the natural beauty of Niagara Falls, NY-Ontario, and the industrial heritage of Detroit, Michigan.
To keep ourselves amused in the summer, Cleveland has a Major League Baseball team; in the fall we field Cleveland Browns football (NFL/AFC); during the winter we court Cavaliers basketball (NBA); in the spring, we cheer on the Crunch soccer (NPSL). We are also one of the charter cities for the National Women's Football League and cheer our Cleveland Fusion in the late spring.
Cleveland is a major port for the Saint Lawrence Seaway/Great Lakes system. In addition to our airport, we have several other attractions:

    • Cleveland Metroparks
"The Emerald Necklace" around Cleveland includes more than twenty parks and a series of connecting bicycle trails, plus creeks, lakes, a gorge, and nature centers.
    • Cleveland Metroparks Zoo & Rainforest
Come see a zoo, spend a day in the rain. No, not outside, but inside the Rainforest, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's newest addition!
    • Cleveland Public Library
Cleveland had the first browseable public library in a major U.S. city. Today the Cleveland Public Library serves all of Cleveland plus, via CLEVENET, provides service to library patrons throughout northern Ohio.
    • Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Following the Cuyahoga River from Valley View to Akron, the CVNP is home to a scenic railroad, Hale Farm Village, Blossom Music Center, Boston Mills Ski Resort, and some of the most beautiful fall leaves in Northeast Ohio.
    • Great Lakes Science Center
This is a place where everything is hands-on... for kids and adults, too! Put your hand through a tornado, make music with plastic pipes, or watch an OMNIMAX theater presentation! All of this and more in downtown Cleveland's North Coast.
    • Historic Warehouse District
Looking for good food and entertainment a bit more "refined" than The Flats? Come up the hill and sample a variety of tastes and styles in Cleveland's newest hot spot!
    • Holden Arboretum
Located 25 miles east of Cleveland in Kirtland, this is a beautiful collection of trees and botanical items which have been carefully tended for our enjoyment and education.
    • Kirtland Temple
One of the original Mormon temples, this Temple remains in use today but is open for tours during the week.
    • International Exposition Center Indoor Amusement Park (seasonal)
Did you ever think you could ride a full scale Ferris Wheel in the middle of winter? This yearly event satisfies the cravings of amusement enthusiasts right when they need it the most.
    • Ohio and Erie Canal Reservation
The Metroparks extension of Cuyahoga Valley National Park takes you along the crooked river, meandering through parkland in the shadow of Cleveland's continuing heavy industries.
    • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum
Do you want to "Shake, Rattle and Roll" while you're in town? Check out this museum which includes (my favorite) an exhibit of costumes and clothing worn by performers during concerts and other events.
    • Steamer William G. Mather Museum
Learn about the history of Great Lakes shipping and the "inland seas" shared by the United States and Canada.
    • Tower City Center
Located in the restored Union Station, the former Terminal Steam Concourses have been turned into a full-scale mall.

How do I get there? Or, Directions to Hopkins Airport

    By Car:

From Northwest, North and Northeast: Take Interstate 90 to the I-90/I-71 split. Take Interstate 71 south to the "Ohio Route 237-Airport-Berea" exit, where you should remain in the left lanes as the road splits from I-71, then I-480. After you pass under the bridge get into the right lane and follow the "Airport" exit signs.

From the West: Take Interstate 80 east (Ohio Turnpike) to I-480 east. Follow I-480 to the "Grayton Road" exit. At the end of the ramp, turn left on Brookpark Road. Watch for signs to "Ohio Route 237-Airport-Berea" and turn right on the ramp. Stay in the right lane and follow the "Airport" exit signs.

From the East: Take Interstate 80 west (Ohio Turnpike) to I-480 west. Follow I-480 to the "Ohio Route 237 Airport-Berea" exit. Stay in the right lane and follow the "Airport" exit signs.

From the South, near Interstate 71: Take I-71 north to the "Snow Road-Airport" exit. At the end of the ramp, turn right and follow Snow Road to the end at the Airport entrance. Follow "Airport" signs.

From the South, near Interstate 77: Take I-77 north to I-480 and exit to "I-480-Toledo." Follow I-480 to the "Ohio Route 237 Airport-Berea" exit. Stay in the right lane and follow the "Airport" exit signs.

    By Rapid Transit:

Take the westbound Route 66X (Red Line) train from Tower City. After 10:00 PM the trains generally stop running, at which time you may catch the westbound #22 RTA bus. (If you're lucky enough to be in town during a Browns or Indians game, the trains run later)
The #22 bus stop is located outside the doors across from the United Airlines ticket counter, on the "Departures" roadway.
Taxis and rental cars are available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

    A Note About Cars:

All major rental car companies serve Hopkins and are located at the Consolidated Rental Facility off the airport grounds. You take a free shuttle from the baggage claim level.
Both Short-Term and Long-Term parking lots are available on the airport grounds. You will pay about $4.00/hr. By comparison, if you park at the Brook Park Rapid Transit Station (about 1 mile from the airport) and take the train, you will pay $3.50 total for the round trip.
There are also about ten parking lots available off the airport grounds. One day in these lots generally tops out at about $11.00, but you have the security of guarded and sometimes covered parking, perhaps with a car wash included.

Click here for more information about local shuttle and taxi service.

Unfortunately there are no sidewalks, pedestrian access ramps, or bicycle lanes running to Hopkins.
