a stry about air fresheners
what's a stry? . . .ask Dr. Evan.i broke down and bought one the other day. and suddenly, they're everywhere. stopped at a red light, in parking lots, even passing me on the interstate-i see them. swaying left and right and leftrightleft dangling from the rearview mirror. i always hated those cheesy leaves. it's as if air freshener companies have this inherent inability to make scents in any shape besides leaf, looney tune, or holy icon.(the leaves in particular seem to be popular, perhaps for their generic, nondescript shape [although a more sinister basis for the leaf shape that appears to be so benign on the surface - mayhap a conspiracy reaching to the very heights of the canadian government? - all too likely.]) i have a blue leaf which not only matches my clayton state college parking permit, (i love you evan) but also claims to be scented with outdoor breeze (three of them, in fact. i suppose implying to me that the oder will eventually run out of the one currently in my car [or maybe the company is simply being optimistic in case i later own three cars simultaneously and want to be relieved of the arduous task of purchasing {gasp} three of the same individual product {although at the same time, wouldn't that leave more room for a wider variety for the indecisive smeller of car interiors? i mean, sometimes you feel like a coconut, while at other moments only a piney fresh will do. i'm calling for the development of a variety pack.}]). i dunno, but while i don't go outdoors as often as some people (those of you who have been blinded by the pallor of my skin recently can testify to this), i have never-never ever-found the outdoors to be scented in any manner remotely similar to the one currently found in the interior of my car, particularly not while it was breezy out. it's much closer to a sweet, fake floral section of a local arts & crafts store smell. not altogether bad, mind you. simply not, well, outdoor breezy.
