glancing back over an endless landscape

that used to diverge but now stretches

eternal and straight behind me

i used to see the twists and turns

now i'm blind

so many dreams and thoughts that never were

have disappeared, exited

before they ever began

the path is hazy behind me

fragments hover still visible

yet to touch them impossible

reach and strain to see more

to uncover what might have been

only a glimpse a grasping of strands

irrevocable inexchangeable

an infinity of steps behind

staring ahead over a myriad landscape

of diversity and confusion

exquisite in its complexity

in its changablility

a lifetime of walking ahead

steps that may be

some that never will

almost intangible

yet undeniable as life itself

the walls of a maze ever changing

opaque for now but not for always

at times the illusion of one simple road

(lying)clear and unfaltering before me

but the most beautiful and most grotesque

twists are those invisible

an infinity of steps ahead
