Introduction to Mid-Eastern Civilizations (HUM 128) is a humanities course at College of Lake County.
A multimedia exploration of the philosophical and religious concepts and values in the Middle East, the expression of those values in art, craftsmanship, architecture, music, film, and literature, and their impact on social and political issues in the region.
The course fulfills a general education humanities requirement, an international education requirement, and transfers under the Illinois Articulation Initiative.
The instructor is Prof. Leslie Hopkins. The course was originated by Dr. Steve Infantino, a professor of philosophy and humanities who designed the course as a result of a research grant from the United States Information Agency and a residency at the American Center of Oriental Research in Amman, Jordan.
Course objectives:
- To discover the rich culture of this vital region
- To overcome the stereotype of "blood, oil, and veils"
