Burg Maus was built after the Katzenelnbogens decided to build Burg Katz at the most dangerous point in the Rhine River. Burg Maus(mouse) was named sarcastically by it's rival Burg Katz(cat). Burg Maus was one the most beautiful castles on the Rhine River. It lasted until 1806 when the French entered Germany and destroyed it with explosives. It was rebuilt and is one of the nicer castles to visit.
