Burg Rheinstein
Burg Rheinstein

Burg Rheinstein was built by the Archbishop of Mainz in 1214 for the collection of tolls for the Electorate of Mainz. It was a base of operations for King Rudolph of Hapsburg. It was cared for by Stewards and by 1632 it was in ruins. The Prussian Prince Fredrick gained control of it in 1825 and rebuilt it. He called it Rheinstein and filled it with art and treasures. It is an excellent example of princly life.
