JOE
WALES' GET-TOGETHER
APRIL 29, 2008
It was a cold, windy day for the last part of April, but 20
classmates
and Joe’s wife Willene were able to gather at the Willard and have a
pleasant lunch in a back section reserved just for us. I couldn’t help
being reminded of the old sock-hops, where the guys huddled up in one
corner and the girls in another ----- Jack Purdy being the only guy
sitting with the gals (you’re a sly fox, Purdy!). I don’t think shyness
had anything to do with it this time though – the ladies just got there
earlier than we did and had all the good seats. We all had a chance to
settle in and say howdy before the guest of honor and his wife came
trotting in, a fashionable 10 minutes late. They were met with a
mingling of shouts and camera flashes as they trekked slowly through
the crowd. After all, it had been a while for Joe and NEVER for
Willene, but it eventually calmed down, with Willene at the head of the
lady’s table, and Joe circling around with us guys.
The talk was
fast and furious. Believe it or not, the girls slowed down
first and put in their lunch orders (go figure –ha!). We guys were too
busy shooting the bull (but we finally did get some chow ordered).
Several of us took pictures. Please send them to Judy or me and we will
get some of them on our website.
It was a very pleasant get-together and a good time was had by all. The
service was good, the food was good and the company was outstanding! A
big “Thank You” to Linda Castner for reserving the room and to Sharon
for being the communication guru.

On
a side note.
In calling folks about the Willard lunch, Sharon gave
me a list of male classmates who weren’t contacted on email. I called
them up, and it gave me a chance to talk to some folks who I haven’t
talked to in ages. Jerry Broaddus, Jerry Van Fleet, Ted Houchin, Tom
Peters, none of which could make it, plus Arnie and Jack Purdy who did.
I got “not in service” messages for Eric Ericson, Gene Collier, and
Steve Emminger. If any of you have up-dated information on any of the
three, please give it to Sharon for our records.
Let’s do this again! Barbara Mosteller is coming later this summer.
Sharon will let us know.
