I have many family ties to the Brookville area, and found this site to be most enlightening - lots of stories my grandfather, De La Fischer, told me show up here. He and many other relatives are buried at Jefferson and the old Brookville cemeteries. Very sad to hear of Jefferson Cemetery being vandalized AGAIN - my dad and mom decided not to be buried there years ago, because of a then-recent vandalization, and now, here it's happened again. I was hoping to have my ashes shipped back from California to Je ferson Cemetery, when my time comes, but maybe not, now that I see what's happened. "Who Skinned Henry Southerland?" was a tale my grandfather told me back in the 1940's and I just thought it was another of his wild tall tales, but here it is - it really happened! I'll spend many hours reading all these wonderful pages you've all put together here - great job, and much appreciated by those of us having fond Brookville ties.

just sent email letting you know that I'm using student works in a large undertaking: The Watershed Atlas of the Allegheny River. mailed it to: historicb@hotmail.com But I want to make sure somebody gets it. I've pasted it here: Hello, My name is Suzy Meyer and I am producing a Watershed Atlas of the Allegheny River. The Atlas will reside on the Internet and will be distributed on CD's to schools and libraries. Another aspect of the Atlas includes an online exhibit at the CArnegie Scien e Center in Pittsburgh. The Atlas is the first of its kind in the country, and already your students are part of it. How? One part of the Atlas is a Timeline of social/cultural/environmental events that happened in or near the watershed. I gleaned information from student historians (www.geocities.com/Athens/Oracle/4034/ see “Articles”). Articles I drew from include Underground Railroad in Brookville; tons of coal and timber taken from Jefferson County in 1830; 150 timber rafts run down ed Bank Creek in 1869; and the timber that was the last run of white oak in 1903; and some information on Cornplanter. I am delighted to use the work of young historians. I trust that it is as accurate as you can be sure, which is one reason I write. Before this goes national, would anyone want to edit any of the above entries I've selected? The Timeline has been reviewed by the Corps of Engineers, and a history professor at Carnegie Mellon University. I just got two thumbs up. There's a lot of good Articles here, looks to be a job well done. All the best, and in January 1999 look for: the Watershed Atlas of the Allegheny River (on the Internet). Look for the Timeline and see your work online for the world to see. all the best, Suzy Meyer

I was just looking around and decided to see if what there might be about my home town "Brookville" out there. I came across your site. Looking good!! I would suggest that you add some information on the pages with the pictures. I have some very good pict res of the courthouse, both now and in it's early years. I will try to E-mail them to you. I did a brochure for the Chamber on the courthouse. I may try to send that to you also, you could cut the text and use it on the site. You might also see if you can put the pictures in a different format, they were very slow comming across. Keep up the good work. I was born and raised in Brookville. I have lived in other places, including out of the country and still consider Brookville "home". My family still lives i Brookville.
