Recycling cans and boxes and stuff. Is it worth it? The facts. A can is worth 5 cents. A bottle of pop is worth 15 cents. A small juice box is worth......what? I don't know. Suffice to say that nothing is worth more than 20 cents or so, right?

So I'm drinking a Coke, yum yum, is it worth bringing home, and putting it in the box where all this stuff goes so that it can be taken into the recycling depot for 5 cents? Being a Chinese son of Chinese parents, I automatically say, yes of course it is. But who is that talking? Me or my parents? Hard to say. I, being a youngish person, resent having to do this shit. On the other hand, the can is worth 5 cents!

So? Is it worth the effort for a measly 5 cents? Which, incidentally, you had to pay as deposit when you bought the stuff in the first place? I say no, it's not worth it at all. If you drink a can of Coke a day for a month, you'll have made $3.00. If you work a full time job, you'll probably have made $3.00 in about ten minutes.

As a Chinese guy, the environmental consequences didn't even occur to me until just right now. But I suppose they are there. Fuck it. Just chuck out the can. If I'm decadent enough to spend a buck buying the Coke, I don't give a shit about the 5 cents i get for bringing it back.
