In the women's hockey game today, Canada beat the U.S.A. to win the gold medal. It was a joke of a game. Anybody who saw it knows what I'm talking about. The refereeing was a total joke. At one point there was something like eight penalties in a row called against Canada. I mean....this was the least penalized team in the whole tournament. So what gives? It is significant to note that the parade to the penalty box began only after Canada got the lead. Many of the penalties were questionable. Most of them, in fact. I cannot think of a worse way to advertise the woman's game than this.
So, it's nice that Canada won. There's precious little funding given to the Canadian national team from the government, and, it would seem, the rest of society. Therese Brisson had to quit her job at the University of New Brunswick to play in the Olympics, because they would not give her a leave of absence. I find that kind of weird. But I guess some people are like that. Maybe I'll understand when I employ people. But I mean....come on. The University of New Brunswick is now famous. It's been mentioned on CBC how many times? Several times at least. And now everybody, including me, thinks that the University of New Brunswick is asinine. Good move, guys.
So now it's time for the Canadian men to beat the Americans. Canada plays Belarus in the semis, and the Russians are threatening to withdraw from the game against the Americans. What's going on with these guys??
Back to main.
