Do people really hold Oscar parties? Do people really pay $50 to go to big posh gala Oscar dinners downtown? Or is society just playing one big joke on me? Do people really watch in gleeful anticipation for fashion faux pas? I have a hard time believing that people would care that much about something like this. That may not hold much water coming from a guy who held a party for Canada's gold medal hockey game. But there's a difference. That was all about national pride. The Oscars are about voyeurism. Not voyeurism in the sense of sex, but voyeurism in the sense of seeing a spectacle for the sake of the spectacle. The ability to observe a ludicrous event without being a participant. In short, watching the Oscars -- not just watching the Oscars, but caring deeply about them, as many people do, is.....very very sad. Can't people find other things to care about? Or maybe I should say, don't they WANT to find other, worthier things to care about than who gets an Oscar? Sunday night. Clear your calendar. It's PARTY TIME!!
are you referring to in Canada? as in....$50 oscar dinners in downtown vancouver? cuz..i was in hollywood the night of the oscars... and, yeah.. it's pretty damn huge. streets blocked off... police... even the tour guides at Universal were psyched...

Must be some sort of twisted community pride.
