Feelings Like Waves

Feelings strike like tidal waves
Suddenly without warning
Powerful forces
I don’t understand
Washing over me
I can’t breathe
Suffocating
Fight them off
So afraid
Like an undertow
Pulls me down again and again

You can’t tame the waves
Only ride them out
On the crest balance is hard
Trying to get away I’m pulled under
Don’t fight, ride it
They exhilarate and frighten
Taken to new places
Feel alive but
Fear being swallowed by it
Gently dropped at waters edge
Peaceful lapping waves
That ebb and flow
