                                    RELIGIOUS SCHOOL

  New Religious School Director

Three months ago Alan Weiner was putting the finishing touches on the Fall program at the Davis Renov Stahler Yeshiva High School for Boys in Woodmere, New York, before permanently moving to his Prescott home.  Little did he realize that he would soon become the Religious School Director at Temple B'rith Shalom.

When the previous Director, Rick Kravitz, moved to California last month, the school found itself suddenly leaderless.  However, Judy Sharp remembered that a new member had an extensive educational background and she asked him to take the position.  Alan agreed to take over the program for at least the rest of this year.

One of Alan's primary goals is to reach out to the families whose children are enrolled in the school.  He is planning to publish a monthly newsletter which will include articles from teachers, parents and students.  He will also seek recommendations on how to improve the school and make it more meaningful for the children from all members of the B'rith Shalom community, but especially from those involved in the school itself.  This includes the children.

Alan comes to us after a career in education that spanned 35 years in New York.  These included 16 years as a social studies teacher, 10 years as a high school Assistant Principal and 7 years as a High School Principal in New York City.  He spent the last 2 years as the General Studies Principal in an orthodox Yeshiva in Woodmere, New York.  Although he is not orthodox, the Yeshiva hired him to improve their secular studies program, a job that was completed in just 2 years.  Alan is currently teaching American History at Paradise Valley Community College.

Alan is married to Elizabeth (Libby) who also had a distinguished career in the New York City Board of Education.  They have 3 children who are each attending graduate school in New York.
