This document is to help you get to know Chicken Jockey. In this game, your goal is to bet on and raise chickens for racing purposes. Simple, no?
Installation
------------
You will need to have a copy of QBasic to run this game.
Running the Program
-------------------
To run Chicken Jockey:
(1) Run qb.exe
(2) Go "File", "Open", and located Jockey1.bas
(3) Open this file.
(4) Press F5, or go to "Run" and "Start".
(5) When you're finished and have exited the game, simply exit QBasic.
NOTE: Do NOT attempt to make any changes to the code. This will cause the game to run incorrectly. :o)
Playing Chicken Jockey
----------------------
To navigate on all screens, use the arrow keys, and the enter key to select.
When you start Chicken Jockey, you will see the intro screens and such and you'll get to a main menu screen. This is pretty self explanatory.
You will notice also that you can use a load game feature. While playing the game, you can save your game at a number of locations. Don't attempt to load if there isn't a saved game on that file. You'll just load blank data and the program will run without any initial values. Not a good thing. :o)
When you begin actually playing the game, you will need to enter your name(s) and the number of races you'd like to have before a tournament starts. Each time you start a race, 3 other races will be happening at the same time, so that makes 4 races each time.
Three new features that have been added to this version of Chicken Jockey are breeding, organized cock fighting, and importing and exporting your chickens. More features to come!
The object of the game is to try and raise three championship chickens...this may not be hard on an easy difficulty setting, but it is a little trickier on hard. :o)
The rest of the game is pretty self explanatory I believe! If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at .
Strategies, Tips, and Troubleshooting
-------------------------------------
(1) If at anytime the game crashes, try pressing F5 again to see if it continues on with normal execution. Sometimes QBasic encounters memory problems. I'm pretty sure that I have fixed this problem in this version of the game. If you encounter a "Stack Space" problem or anything of the sort, please e-mail me.
(2) Having said that, make sure you SAVE your game OFTEN.
(3) It is a good idea to check out what options are available to you before you begin racing. Also, check out the available chickens for the best buys before you purchase.
(4) When you own a chicken, you have to make sure it has enough food. Just like any other living creature, these virtual chickens eat continuously! Make sure you buy them decent chicken feed. Avoid the lower grades unless you're dirt poor and can't afford losing your chicken to starvation. :o)
(5) Taking out a loan is useful, but make sure you don't run out of loan money! You can only take out $50, and after that, no more!
(6) Speed isn't the only thing that makes a good chicken. Be flexible in terms of attributes! Also, a chicken with a good overall rating isn't necassarily the fastest chicken. Keep this in mind when betting on chickens.
(7) IMPORTANT: If for some reason the game locks up, press CONTROL and PAUSE/BREAK to immediately stop the program from continuing. This is like the reset button on any video game console. From here, just restart the program or quit QBasic.
(8) Have fun, and please let me know of any problems you might be enountering. Also, I would love to hear what you think of it!
