RUSSIAN MINISTRY NEWS LETTER: DECEMBER 1999
Dear Friends,
Warm Christian greetings from cold Russia!
It's rather cold here- an average November temperature in Moscow was about 7-10 degrees F'.
Despite of all difficulties we continue our ministry in public schools. Last month we had 12 anti-abortions and anti-drugs lectures. As it was mentioned in our previous update we are facing serious problems from the some Orthodox representatives who declared that our programs are imposing teenagers to use drugs and promoting premarital sex (absolute different from what we really do).
The most powerful sign for us was that regardless to that lie the teacher from the very same school where all that problems occurred, invited us to come again and present our programs to the students anyway! She understands that our programs and very valuable for the kids and they need to hear the truth. About a week ago we came to that school and had 3 anti-drugs lectures to ore than 60 teens. As usual they were very receptive. Praise the Lord! As it's said: if God "openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth" In total during November we had 12 lectures and reached more than 330 high-grade students in public schools.
Almost every week several people get saved in the local hospital.
We are praying also for the new outreach area. A lady from our church, Olga Maiba is a member of local folk-songs quire. She is promoting the idea to sing Christian songs along with the folk songs and use it as an evangelization tool. The quire agreed and they started the rehearsals.
Another very serious prayer need is the Parliamentary elections to held on December 19th. We believe that many future events will be determined by their results. May the Lord grant Russian people wisdom to make the right choice.
The Parliamentary election runs against the backdrop of last year economic crisis that discredited market reforms for many Russians and a brutal war against Moslem rebels in Chechnya.
The bribing, dirty accusations, flattery are flourishing in mass-media.
So, we ask your prayer support.
