HAGEL - Rowan

The Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia), or Mountain Ash, was regarded by Runic shamans as a feminine equivalent of the Ash and therefore a Tree of Life. It radiates a powerful aura and because of this was often planted near a door as a protector of the home. In Scandinavia it is sometimes referred to as 'the Lady of High Places'. Rune-sticks were often fashioned from the Rowan, which was closely associated with 'whispered secrets'. In ancient Britain it was sometimes called 'the Druid's tree' and related to knowledge and wisdom that comes from 'above' - meaning inspiration derived from the Higher Self. The red berries of the Rowan have a dimple opposite the stalk which is in the form of a five-pointed star - considered a sign of protection. Rowan teaches you the need to protect yourself from adverse influences and to learn discernment.
Runic shamans associate Rowan with HAGEL because it was considered to be a bridge to the creativity that incites beauty, and because it had an ability to allow what is beautiful in thought, word and deed to flow forth in one's life.
