NAUD - Beech Beech (Fagus sylvatica) is associated with food because in olden times its foliage was used as fodder for pigs and other animals. It is also suggestive of knowledge because its fine-grained bark is so smooth that it provided an excellent writing surface. So Beech is indicative of a knowledge that not only feeds the mind but nourishes the Soul. Runic shaman regarded the Beech as a guardian of ancient wisdom and also as a door that provided access to it - for the person with a questing spirit and with love in the heart. The Beech was regarded as reflective and, like the Rune NAUD with which it is associated, enabled one to learn what one needed to know from experience and to avoid repeating past mistakes. |
