ODAL - Gorse

The Gorse or furze bush (Ulex europaeus) was traditionally burned at autumn to rid it of the dry old spines and to promote new growth in the spring. So it is a tree associated with purification and replenishment. Its rich yellow flowers bloom throughout the year and attract the first bees of the year. Their affluence of pollen and nectar is understood shamanically as being indicative of the rich rewards that await the diligent seeker.
Gorse is a tree that protects one's endeavours in gathering the skills and whatever else is necessary to attain a goal. It indicates forthcoming abundance that needs to be shared or distributed fairly and wisely, for if hoarded it will have adverse effects. Its associated Rune is ODAL.
