REID - Oak

The sturdy Oak (Quercus robur) was regarded in olden days as the king of the forest and as a refuge, and it has long since been associated with strength and durability. As its wood provided timber for sailing ships and wheels, it thus played an important part in travel and the means of conveyance from place to place. Oak was also used for making doors. An Oak tree was often used to mark boundaries, and sometimes appeared on shamanic journeys to indicate the border of another level of existence. It was associated with REID - the Rune of the travelling shaman. Runic shamans thus regarded the Oak and REID-Rune as providers of the strength to fight against the limitations of logic, which can smother our hopes and aspirations, and the courage to go beyond self-imposed boundaries.
Oak is a tree that grows slowly, but its development is sure. So it stresses the importance of not being too hasty, and minimizes the importance of relatively 'small' things, for the mighty Oak itself has grown from a tiny acorn. Oak and REID can thus help you to be expansive and to recognize that the power of achievement is inherent in you, for your greatest resource is yourself, and the connection with the infinite lies within you. ..........
