THE KEY CLUB OF
CHAPARRAL HIGH SCHOOL
The Chaparral Key Club is a service organization chartered in the spring of 1971. Chaparral High School has 280 students in grades 9-12 and is located midway between Anthony and Harper, two small towns in south central Kansas. Our club has had between 40 and 80 members the last several years.
It is sponsored by the Anthony Kiwanis Club which celebrated its 80th Anniversary in 2005. The Chaparral club is a member club of
Key Club International and the Kansas District of Key Club International.
Chaparral students who choose to join Key Club accept the Objects of Key Club and obligations of membership. They also agree to participate in projects of the international major emphasis program "High Five for Health" stressing nutrition, wellness and play in children.
Over its history, the Chaparral Key Club members have held leadership positions on both the international and district level. The club is proud of the young men and women who have lead us. The club is also proud of its record of service and activities as reflected in awards received at the annual district convention.
Our 2008-2009 Officers are President Ali Harbin, Vice President Holly Weiss and Secretary-Treasurer Melissa Denton. They can be written at our snail mail address: Chaparral High School, 467 N State Road 14, Anthony, KS 67003. Or at our e-mail address chskeyclub@yahoo.com.

Mr. H. helped organize our club and has been with us all 38 years. He retired ten years ago, but continued as an Advisor. We are proud that Mr. Hottman was one of two 2005 Key Club International Key of Honor recipients. The award is the highest recognition presented by Key Club International. Mr. Hottman also served 5 years as the Kansas District Administrator. Our Kiwanis Sponsor is Mr. Don Jensen. He and Mr. Ron Hill have been strong supporters of the club from the start. All are members of the Anthony Kiwanis Club.
Our club tries to carry out a program of projects each year.
Since 1973 our club has presented the Sandy Nininger Award to the graduating senior that has made the most of his/her God given talents. Nine years ago, when our long time faculty advisor retired from teaching, our club re-named our service scholarship in his honor.
