Chaparral Key
Club Scholarship
In 1995, our Board of Directors decided to
give a scholarship to a Key Club member based on participation in our club and
it’s activities. The scholarship is selected by combining ratings given to
applicants by three different panels; one made up of the underclass member of
our board of directors, one made up of Kiwanians, and one made up of faculty
members.
In 1997, our club scholarship’s focus was
changed. The scholarship became based on the service record of the applicant.
By doing this, the scholarship became a part of the National Service
Scholarship Program and eligible for matching funds from the Corporation
for National Service. In 1999, the National Service Scholarship Program was
changed to the President’s Student Service Scholarship. The matching program was discontinued after the 2006 scholarship year.
In 1998, the Chaparral Key Club Board of
Directors renamed our scholarship the Robert E. Hottman Key Club Scholarship
in honor of our long time advisor.
