The Gardnerian tradition is a recipe for Apple Pie. Follow it and you will get an Apple Pie, now if you crave Cherry Pie or Chocolate Cream you need to follow another recipe. As the recipe for Apple Pie only gets you Apple Pie. I am in no place to write a good recipe for Cherry Pie nor Chocolate Cream but there are people working on some good recipes. But alas you can't call the recipe for making Cherry Pie "Apple Pie" because that is not what you will get in the end simply put.
The paraphrase was from memory Lon made a similar analogy for the Gnostic Mass of the OTO, in a lecture some years ago. Which is in itself another recipe for Apple Pie. He is a jolly fellow...
