Does Man Have A Soul?

1. “The burden of the word of the Lord
for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth
the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him”
(Zechariah 12:1).
2. “But there is a spirit in man: and the
inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding” (Job 32:8).
3. “Then shall the dust return to the earth
as it was: and the spirit unto God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7).
4. “And fear not them which kill the body,
but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him who is able to destroy
(“to devote or give over to eternal misery”-Thayer) both soul and body
in hell” (Matthew 10:28).
5. “And when Jesus had cried with a loud
voice, He said, Father into Thy hands I commend My spirit: and having said
thus, He gave up the ghost” (Luke 23:46).
6. “In your patience possess ye your souls”
(Luke 21:19).
7. “And they stoned Stephen, calling upon
God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit” (Acts 7:59).
8. “For what man knoweth the things of a
man, save the spirit of man which is in him...” (1 Corinthians 2:11)?
9. “For which cause we faint not: but though
our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2
Corinthians 4:16).
10. “For as the body without the spirit
is dead. so faith without works is dead also” (James 2:26).
11. “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness
and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted
word which is able to save your souls” (James 1:21).
12. “Seeing ye have purified your souls
in obeying the truth through the spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren,..”
(1 Peter 1:22).
13. “Beloved, I wish above all things that
thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3
John 2).
14. “And when he had opened the fifth seal,
I saw the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the
testimony which they held..” (Revelation 6:9).
15. “For what is a man profited, if he shall
gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in
exchange for his soul” (Matthew 16:26).
As you can see, we have simply given quotes from the Bible in answer to the question of the ages. To one who accepts the Bible as the word of the Almighty God, the question "Does man have a soul?" is answered in no uncertain language. That answer is an emphatic "YES!"
You may want to read the account of two men who lived and who each died and who were still alive and aware of their surroundings from (Luke 16:19-31). Some say "that's a parable!" Fine. I deny that is is a parable, but even if we granted that it is, parables teach truth! Two men lived, two men died, two men were still alive and conscious. The soul survives!
