Who Told You That?

INTRO:
1. I want to talk about a question found in Genesis.
2. This involves Adam and Eve.
3. They didn't listen to God but listened to the devil
4. Gen. 3:11 He said   Who told thee thou wast naked?
5.  We're interested in the question in verse 11.
6. A lot of people believe a lot of things let us explore that concept.
7. When we get to thinking about some concepts let us ask "Who told you that?"
8. There are three different sources of advice.
 a. From God. - He told them not to eat lest you die.
      1. Heb. 1:1-2 In the last Days God has spoken through His Son.
 b. The advice of the Devil - Devil told them they would not die. Gen. 2 and 3
 c. Man s own thinking - Rom. 10:1-3 (read) establish own righteousness. I won't work!
9. In religious matters only one source of advice is right 1 Peter 4:11.
 a. The advice of the devil will get you into trouble!
 b. One's own thinking may not be right.
 c. We can t listen to people or the devil.
10. We need to ask who told you that? If they can't give book, chapter, and verse don't accept!

I.  WHO TOLD YOU THAT SAVED BY FAITH ONLY?

 A. The Bible says
  1. James 2:14-26; Heb. 11:4,7
 B. Someone said my preacher said that or I saw it on TV.
 C.  We must remember the source of the advice.
 D. Paul said remember the source.

II. WHO TOLD YOU THAT -

 A. The Bible affirms we are saved by the Grace of God.
  1. Gen. 6:5-9
  2. Heb. writer and Eph. 2:8-10
  3. 1 Cor. 15: -Paul said; I am what I am by the Grace of God
  4. Eph. 3 the grace of God is mentioned as being essential
 B. The world says OK the Bible says saved by Grace-that's all that is necessary.
  1. Say Jesus died. All we have to do is just accept it.
  2.  The Bible doesn t say that!
 C. Tit. 2:11-12
  1. Everybody has the grace of God, it teaches us. We must be taught John 6:44-45!
  2. We must understand it is not by Faith alone or by Grace alone!
 D. When you hear Grace Only or Faith Only taught, ask who told you that? James 2:14-26!

III. THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH

 A. Most have idea it is not important. Say if nothing else to do, no place else to go.
 B. Who told you that?
 C. Eph. 5:23,25; Acts 2:47; Eph. 2:13-16; Acts 20:28  1 Cor. 6:20; 1 Pet. 1:18-19
 D.  The Bible places great emphasis and value on the Lord's church!.
 E. Who told you it wasn t valuable and that one is as good as another?

IV. BAPTISM

 A. What does the world think about baptism in regards to salvation?
  1. Some say it isn't necessary. It makes no difference how baptized.
  2. Some sprinkle, pour etc. But Colossians 2:12; Romans 6:3-4; Acts 8:38-39.
  3. Some don t baptize at all - Salvation Army, Friends church - Quakers.
 B. Who told you that? The Lord, Man or the Devil
 C. The Bible says Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 1 Pet. 3:21; Acts 22:16
 D. We must make the appeal to the right source - Christ! John 12:48
 E. Good question isn t it? Many answers given recently in Peoria newspaper.

V. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

 A. Most use it. except us and Greek Orthodox church
 B. Who said it was OK?
 C. We might get some different answers.
  1. OT said to - Psa. 81:1-4 command of God
  2. We have it in the home. What about that? Lots of things we do at home but not in assembly.
  3. Many  give other reasons
 D. We must make an appeal to God what did he say in the New Testament?
  1. Heb. 2:12
  2. Col 3:16
  3. Eph. 5:19
  4. Others that say the same thing. All N. T. Passages specify Sing..
 E. Who told you it is OK?

VI. THINK GOD IS TOO GOOD TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO BE LOST

 A. Universalist church thinks everybody will be saved - Universal salvation.
 B. Who told you that?
 C. Source of advise God or man?
  1. Rom. 11:22
  2. Don t believe in God s severity? Read the O.T. find when Israel disobeyed God were punished. God said if you do as I say  I will bless you if you don t I will curse you.
  3. Read Deut. 28 sometime.
 D. Gal. 5:16-21 the works of the flesh - shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
 E. Who said that? God did. Better listen to that rather than the Devil or man.
 F. This philosophy is appealing to people.

CONCLUSION:

1. People are misguided and misled by
 a. Advice of the devil through his ministers (2 Cor. 11:13-15).
 b. Or their own thinking
2.  We must find out what God says!
3. If  I can t read it in the Bible-I had better leave it alone!
