The Balrog of Morgothmallow

Or How I Attempted to Win a Balrog Collectible with a Flaming Marshmallow.

So, in February of 2003, I found Ain't It Cool News and soon after noticed a contest for the sold out Sideshow/Weta limited edition balrog sculpture. The contest struck me as really very funny. And, after some idle thought, I decided to try it. Here are pictures of my little confection. It was entirely edible except for the wire frame, the base and its cinder decoration, the whip, and the eyes. Not that anyone would want to eat it. It got rather dirty before I was done. Wingspan? In excess of four feet. Height? About fifteen inches, not including the base. Did I win? Well, no. I did make 5th runner up, but my pictures of it burning weren't dramatic enough. The one that did win was fantastic and you should go see it here.

If you are interested, I wrote up a detailed 'how I did this' on E2. Just look up Marshmallow Balrog.

Then I went a little nuts with the food coloring and props.

Trying to set it on fire. It didn't work.

Finally gave up and thrust it into the fireplace.
