Success Maker |
An evaluation of C.C.C.'s Success Maker
as it is currently used at Elementary Schools
By Genevieve Etienne, Gaitanio Kiouprouli and Sherrie Williams
INTRODUCTION
Success Maker was designed by an educational software company called C.C.C. (Computer Curriculum Corporation) and was offered in various contract forms according to the needs of different schools. This way, some schools can have full access to all its features, while others, mainly the ones in the "Low Achieving List", can use only some parts of it, which is mostly drill and practice software.
The system as a whole is impressive. It offers a number of courses such as: Math, Reading, Science, English as a Second Language, for differed grade levels and on a variety of themes.
The system also has a web page that gives teachers and students the opportunity to chat, exchange ideas and participate in big projects on line.
Of course, this does not make it perfect or a panacea that can save schools, teachers and students. As everything in the real world, it has its pros and cons.
As the system is relatively new in our schools in Florida, it is hard to measure its "success making", because it is still very early and the students did not have the opportunity to use the system for the duration of their elementary education. We have yet to see how long it can keep a student interested and motivated.
