DEFINITION:

Distance education is the instruction that takes place when the teacher and the student are not physicaly present in the same location. The idea is an old one; it started in the form of correspondence. Nowadays it brings to mind mainly technology modes: audio, video and computer technology.

DISTANCE EDUCATION DEFINITING ELEMENTS:

• the seperation of teacher and student during at least a majority of the instructional process.
• the use of instructional media to unite teacher and learner and carry course content.
• the provision of two way communication between the teacher and the learner. (Verduin and Clark, 1991)
