 This Month: SYMBOLS by URANDA

Let's begin this cycle by meditating upon the basic 'word symbols' that describe the means by which 'that invisible Something' might come clearly into manifestation through each one of us, exactly where we are.

The rapidity of our progress, growth, development, rebirth, will depend upon the ease with which we let ourselves be changed as we move along the way. Now, when we recognize the importance of moving from the place where we are toward the place where we ought to be, we can see that in order to clearly visualize the principles at work in the state where we shall be, we must have present with us symbols of that which shall be, symbols of things to come. The point will arrive where we stop functioning on the basis of the symbol and reach the thing itself, but the symbol must be the substitute of the thing until we reach it, because we can function only in relationship to that which is present with us. We cannot function in the future; we cannot function in the past; we must function in the present moment. And since the point where we shall be is not in its full or adequate manifestation present with us where we now are, it must be symbolized somehow so that we can see what is to be and allow it to have meaning in the present moment.
.
There are many people who have a very positive pattern of objection to symbols and to substitutes. They say, 'Well, why use a symbol? Why not use the thing itself? Why bother with a substitute? I want the real thing.' As long as the individual carries that attitude he will never have the real thing, because whatever he has will be a substitute in relationship to that which ought to be. So we need to accept the idea of substitutes and learn how to function correctly in relationship to them. Rejection of a substitute or a symbol is likewise a rejection of that which can manifest through the symbol.
.
What is a symbol? It is that which represents something else; and representing something else, it gives body to the essence of that which is in something else. It would be nice to have the completed adequate form of the manifestation of the kingdom of heaven on earth, but we do not have it. Are we going to sit and twiddle our thumbs until it appears? We will have to wait too long. So we do have something manifest—our present circumstances, whatever they may be. Now, there are many things that are classified as symbols which are not true symbols in this sense. They are dead things. But a true symbol allows the invisible essence to have a body now. We cannot produce the body that is to be, so we utilize a symbolic body as a means of letting the essences appear in the now.
.
When we begin to see this principle clearly we begin to recognize that every ill thing, every ill form, every discord, is not actually a thing in itself; it is a substitute. It is a substitute for what? Nothingness. It is a substitute for that which it is becoming, and it is not the real thing. If we identify ourselves with it, claim it as our own, we will be under the weight of it, it will be our god, and we will move in the direction in which it is moving—toward nothingness. We wish to move toward somethingness. So instead of accepting the distortions as permanent things or as things that must control, we accept
nothing but the truth as the control factor.
.
If you try to figure out just what you will be and how, what relationship you will have to someone else, and all the rest of it, you only confuse the issue, spoil the pattern. But if you let the substitute begin to have meaning, and you allow it to take the place of the thing that is to be—not on a permanent basis but perhaps it would be for five minutes, perhaps for fifty years, who cares?—then you begin to realize that the symbol can be the means by which the essences of the thing itself are allowed to manifest. You have cooperated with God in providing a substitute body for that which is supposed to manifest in the creative field where you are.
.
You may say that the symbol comes to you as a baby, as a baby giving form to a spirit that is yet to manifest in its fullness of form. That symbol is precious to you—not that you expect it to stay a baby forever. No real parent wants the child to remain a baby forever. He wishes that child to grow up, become a man or a woman. But does that keep the parent from loving the baby, caring for it, appreciating it? He has to give more care to the baby than he will to the grown man or woman, normally. So with the symbol. Your symbols are your babies. How do you care for them? Lovingly, or do you just toss them around? The substitute is a means by which the vibratory factor can have some kind of form now. You can have the genuine spirit through the symbol. The symbol will not have all of that which will be contained in the form that is to be. But do you think you are going to leap from the state of the symbol to the state of the full manifestation of the thing itself? If you do, you are wrong. It takes approximately twenty years for a baby to mature physically; if we classify each six months in that period as being distinct from each succeeding six months, we will have forty different patterns of manifestation in the twenty years. Well then, which one of those substitute patterns back along the way should we have eliminated?

At which point should we have tossed it out? Would you have been here? Say when you were thirteen, suppose someone had said, 'Now, you're just a substitute for what you are supposed to be; I'm going to eliminate you.' Would you be here? No, you got here by reason of the substitute you. Each succeeding substitute comes nearer being the revelation of the ultimate design, if you are functioning correctly. But the spirit, the essences, the laws, the principles working through the substitute are the same as that which will be working through the ultimate thing.
.
So we have symbols of all sorts, symbols applying to absolutely every phase of life. Only by use of successive substitute patterns do we ever reach the point of having the adequate revelation of the Spirit in form on earth. Because human beings are accustomed to judging everything by the form without regard to the spirit, they get into a state of terrible confusion. It does not work, judging the form. If you would stop judging your own beauty or handsomeness or something else on the basis of comparing forms and let the genuine reality of the Spirit manifest through the form as it is, to the fullness of the capacity of the form as it is, the form might change. If we utilize this substitute the way it should be utilized, it will be changed into another pattern, still a substitute but able to let more of the Spirit through. But wherever the Spirit does get through, it is genuine. If it is the Spirit of the design, it is the real thing.
.
Blessed Ones, the right use of the substitutes, letting them be the means for the revelation of the true Spirit, the real, the genuine Spirit, allows the substitutes to change; but we must treat the substitutes with love and care and consideration. If we say, 'Oh, that's only a substitute, I don't care what happens to it,' well, then, you do not care what happens to the spirit within it and you are not worshipping God, you are not centered in him. The body of Jesus was a substitute, a substitute for the Body of God on earth, which was supposed to include every man, woman and child on earth. The body of Jesus was a substitute body. The real Body is the body of mankind as a whole, allowing the complete and adequate revelation of the fullness of Deity on earth.
.
Let us rejoice in the symbols, in the substitutes. Your body is a symbol of you. How good a symbol? Well, it is the only symbol of you there is. If you treat it right, it can become a better symbol; if you treat it wrongly, it will be a worse symbol. What is revealed through the symbols? People are always imagining that I am looking at the form of the symbol and judging by it. As long as it is able to function, if there is a real spirit in it, I will accept the symbol. What difference does it make? Let the Spirit of the Living God be a reality in you on earth here and now, and let the full capacity of the symbol be used and see what happens to the symbol. Perhaps you yourself might come out of heaven into the earth one bright day.

The 'talks' presented here month by month were given consistently, week after week, month after month,  and on occasion as often as three or four times a week, one hour at a time, year after year, by both of these remarkable and utterly trustworthy men, for over half a century. Uranda, and Martin, were in every sense of the word, Emissaries of Divine Light.

They lovingly and consistently made themSelves available to Spirit by reason of their great love for Deity, Mankind collectively, and all those who were willing to draw near in consciousness.
Those of us who eventually stood with them in spiritual agreement, by letting Life 'live us', and found that by being 'in Attunement with' Invisible Cause, we were enjoying the Supreme Adventure of both heeding and moving easily with Life's clarion call, to...(as Martin often said),

'Grow up!, Be who you really are. No one, no circumstance, can prevent you from being your true self! ' ~ Martin Exeter

AND
In Uranda's words, before him -

'Let love radiate without concern for results!'~

"By whatever name called, that invisible source is revealed on earth when you let the irresistible force work through the capacities which you have."
