THE OHIO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

UNDER THE SPONSORSHIP OF

REPRESENTATIVE AMY SALERNO
HOUSE DISTRICT #23

On behalf of the members of the House of Representatives of the 123rd General Assembly of Ohio, we wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and associates of

SARA BACKOUS MIELKE

in their bereavement.

Only twenty-one years old, Sara Backous Mielke figured prominently in the civic and environmental affairs of her community, and it is, indeed, fitting to acknowledge her productive efforts. A program assistant with the Ohio Environmental Council, a prime mover behind the OEC Volunteer Involvement Program, an organizer of the OEC's 29th Anniversary celebration, an active participant in the successful petition drive to protect Pickerington Ponds, and an outspoken educator and advocate who helped plan the Better Ways to Develop Ohio conference and who assisted at Bowling Green State University's Earth Day events, she fulfilled an array of challenging responsibilities with the utmost competence. To her credit, her energy and expertise cheered and fortified a multitude of people, and it is no surprise that her readiness to favor a worthy cause with her initiative, intelligence, and integrity earned her a host of admirers.

Whether occupying center stage or playing an important role in the wings, Sara Backous Mielke always made her supportive presence felt, and although we grieve her passing, we may seek inspiration and solace in her outstanding example. She showed how very much a conscientious person can accomplish, and clearly, her unflagging commitment to the well-being of others prompted many who knew her to dedicate themselves similarly. Clearly, the world is a richer place for her having been in it, and the vision and vitality of this model citizen will be sorely missed.

Thus, with great pleasure, we pay homage to the enduring memory of Sara Backous Mielke and salute her for her impressive achievements.
