In the beginning was the principle by which the inward thought is expressed,
and the principle was with God,
and God was the principle.

this one was in the beginning with God.

all things came into being through him,
and without him came into being not one thing which exists.

in him was life,
and the life was the light of men;
and the light in the darkness shines,
and the darkness overpowered it not.
