UPDATES: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 16th Lacey was hit by a drunk driver at around 10:30pm. She was rushed to St. Tammany Hospital where she was brought to stable condition until she could be flown to Charity Hospital- New Orleans Campus. The following week she remains unconscious from surgery anesthesia and pain medications. Several surgeries are performed using rods, pins, wires, etc to correct her broken bones and busted knee caps. MONDAY, OCTOBER 25th More than a week after the accident, Lacey is conscious long enough to be made aware of her situation. She is no longer critical, but faces a major hip bone surgery the next day that could take from 6 to 15 hours. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28th The surgery went great and lasted a little more than 5 hours! She is quickly recovering from all surgeries. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1st Lacey is brought home in an ambulance. She says she is happy, but she misses the cute doctors and E.M.T.’s that worked with her in the hospital and on the way home. She knows it is going to be a long road to recovery and seems sad the next few days. sorry Lacey : ( In the meantime, we are helping her with everything. It is difficult on everyone because Lacey is used to doing things for herself. She has a daily schedule of having to sit up and get in her wheelchair for therapy. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 8th Lacey is brought to Charity in an ambulance for her first checkup. Everything went fine medically, but this was by far the hardest day for her since she got home. She was very uncomfortable, waiting and being seen in the hospital took over 10 hours. This was by far one of the worst days for everyone since coming home from the hospital. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 10th Lacey gave me permission to post a website for her so that people could follow her progress as she recovers. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 13th Lacey had a surprise to show everyone. She could move her right leg all by herself! WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16th Lacey mentioned that she didn’t have to take any pain pills for two days in a row! OMG!- it has been a month since the accident and she was critical only two weeks ago! THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 18th We noticed that Lacey can bring herself to sit up straight without assistance! (she used a belt I looped at the end of her bed to pull from) SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19th I tried to get Lacey to let me film her so I could post it to this site. She wanted to wait a few days, but I will try to get her to do this soon. She really likes the malts that Aunt Janice has been making for her. LATE NOVEMBER She says she can’t feel any bed sores- that they have all gone away. She has been doing therapy by herself and with others each day. THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 28-DECEMBER 4TH It seems that Lacey has been recovering at an accelerated rate. All the sudden she can now move either leg- well, at least a little! And she her therapy at home is going great. She can stretch her legs all the way up and all the way to the side. Her right arm and her legs aren’t bending much at all right now. She gets a little frustrated of course, but we are all so proud of her. SUNDAY,DECEMBER 6 I came home and noticed lacey was in the bathtub for the first time. She really enjoyed being able to take a bath, even though it took a few people to get her in and out. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9th Uncle Barry built a ramp to allow Lacey to get into her wheelchair with the assistance of a single person!
