Website Evaluation Webquest

Goal:
Learn effective and efficient methods of using the Internet as a tool for instruction.

Objective:
Participants will evaluate websites for educational value specific to his/her teaching level.

Directions:
1.  Gather in a group of 3-4 and brainstorm components of a website that is of educational value (to your teaching level).  (5-10 minute discussion)
2.  Does your discussion match the 5W’s found at http://www.kathyschrock.com/abceval/5ws.htm?
3.  Visit this site (http://school.discovery.com/schrockguide/eval.html), read the information under “Teacher Helpers: Critical Evaluation Information”, and print the PDF Critical Evaluation Survey that is relevant to the grade that you teach.
4.  Select one of your favorite “grade appropriate” sites that you enjoy using.  Use the survey to evaluate that site.  If you have written a site of your own, use the survey to evaluate your own site.
5.  Try to evaluate one additional site with another class participant.
