Latin-English Dictionaries

Similar to Lynn Nelson's word list, but about 2/3 the total size of the latter, and split into more manageable page sizes.
Latin <-> English Dictionary [uses frames, 10K text, 55K graphics] or
Latin <-> English Dictionary (no frames)
Yet another spinoff from Lynn Nelson's word list. Look up words in Latin or English, and this dictionary returns all definitions that match your search. You can use some Boolean arguments.
Lewis and Short Latin Dictionary
Searchable Latin-to-English dictionary made available online by the Perseus Project. Classical Latin.
Lynn Nelson, Latin Word List
Approximately 8000 Latin words, with English definitions. Includes ecclesiastical Latin. This is a word list rather than a dictionary, strictly speaking. Gives genitive form of nouns, but not all principal parts of verbs. 367K. There is considerable overlap between this and Bill Casselman's dictionary, but each has some words that the other does not.
William Whitaker, Words
Freeware Latin-to-English dictionary for DOS, Windows 95, or Linux. Requires 386 or later. Classical Latin.

Multilingual Dictionaries

Freeware Dictionary Program
If you have Windows 9x/NT and want a translating dictionary you can consult offline, check this out. I tried the Latin-English dictionary, and it is pretty slick. Currently 4700 Latin terms, 8300 English terms. You can add, edit, or delete terms and definitions. More than a dozen other languages available, including French, German, Greek, and Spanish.
The Internet Dictionary Project
A cooperative effort. Translate between English and Latin, Assyrian, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish. A free download version of the Latin-English dictionary (8320 Latin terms) is also available for Windows.
The LOGOS Dictionary
Words and phrases in thirty languages, including Latin. [9K text, 44K graphics].

Study Aids

Allen and Greenough's New Latin Grammar (1903)
Partial online edition.
Dale A. Grote, Study Guide to Wheelock (1993)
I wish I had found this before plowing through three semesters of grammar. Beginning Latin students may wish to download and print out this study guide for reference.
Bob Hasenfratz, Lingua Latina
Also known as "WinLatin". Freeware for users of Windows 3.x or later. Latin grammar drills. Hasenfratz is on the faculty of the English Department at the University of Connecticut, and specializes in medieval literature.
Latin Dictionary and Grammar Aid
From the University of Notre Dame, a more user-friendly version of Lynn Nelson's word listand on online version of William Whitaker's "Words" program form of a word based on the ending. And links to other resources for students of Latin.
Latin Pronunciations
Nota bene: This is ecclesiastical Latin, not classical Latin. [4K text, 236K graphics].

Latin for Travelers

Latina pro viatoribus
Handy if you expect to be traveling to a Latin-speaking country. (Other languages have travelers' dictionaries, so why not Latin?) Limited vocabulary includes Neo-Latin.
Tempestas
And, wherever you're traveling, you'll want to check the weather. The praedictio, unfortunately, is in English, but various weather maps and current conditions are all in Latin.

Latin Literature

Bibliotheca Latina
Directory (in Latin) from the Classics Department at the University of Wisconsin. [12K text, 55K graphics].
Labyrinth Library: Latin Texts
Directory of classical and medieval Latin texts, ecclesiastical Latin resources, translations, and related materials.
The Latin Library
From Ad Fontes Academy, a collection of Latin texts by more than four dozen authors. Mostly classical, but some medieval and Neo-Latin as well.
Latin Literature
A massive [162K text, 19K graphics] table of online texts in Latin or translated from Latin. From Classical to Neo-Latin. At the Forum Romanum.
Jacques-Paul Migne (ed.), Patrologia Latina (1st ed., 1844-1855).
Surpassed in some cases by more recent scholarship, but still very often used as the standard in citations of patristic authors. Full text of all volumes of the Migne Patrologia Latina, along with apparatus and indexes, now available for searching or browsing online.
Nottingham High School, Latin Translations
For fans of Neo-Latin, this page offers Christmas, Hanukkah, and Elvis Presley songs. For the most part, they "scan".
James J. O'Donnell
O'Donnell is a classics professor at the University of Pennsylvania. His page on Augustine is very highly regarded, and includes the Latin of the Confessions. A bit of digging will turn up more Latin texts from late antiquity on O'Donnell's other pages, including Boethius, Cassiodorus, Donatus the Grammarian, and Gregory the Great. Also includes an online syllabus for medieval Latin.
Perseus Project: Latin Texts
This library of classical Latin texts is just starting out. Quite a lot of Cicero and Plautus, not many texts by other authors. Most also have English translations available.
Plautus, Casina and Menaechmi.
Comedies. At Perseus. The bad news is: no English "trots" here. The good news is: both have plenty of morphological links.
Virgil, Aeneid
At the Perseus Project. Defaults to the Latin text, with morphological links. If you still cannot decipher the Latin, even after consulting the morphological analysis and the Lewis and Short Latin Dictionary, two English versions are also provided--one "poetic" and the other somewhat more literal.
