The Holy Eastern Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church in North America ®...is alive and well, so do not be fooled by the many independent groups claiming they are this Church under any name. Copyright 1999, 2003 The Holy Eastern Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church in North America ® The Church has a service mark on the corporate name shown above and claims a service mark on the short name American Orthodox Catholic Church, in use since 1928, and Synod name of The North American Holy Synod. When "sm" is used by a name it shows the item is publicly claimed as a service mark and meets the requirements of the Unites States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO). There are many different groups around claiming to be the Church Abp. Aftimios "founded", "chartered", "established" and so on. They make bogus claims of being his Church, claim others have left them and started their own church among other things. One group who keeps changing their name claimed to be this Church with our name behind theirs and claimed they had the authority to change the name. This is false. Other such claims are similarly groundless. We are the same Corporate Church that was established by the Russian Synod of Bishops in North America on Feb. 2, 1927 and incorporated by Abp. Aftimios and others on Feb. 1, 1928. We have a certified copy of the Officers and Directors of that Corporation from Boston and it shows Metropolitan Victor is Corporate President. It does not show the names of these independent bishops claiming to be "the Church founded on Feb 2, 1927". Our Church has the letter of resignation from the Church from one of these bishops and documents showing the North American Holy Synod [sm] issued a decree that canonically deposed and anathamatized four former bishops according to the Canons of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Those laymen appear to continue to act as if they were valid bishops with authority and ignore that decree. |
Do not be fooled or misled by the claims of the independent groups. They are not canonical and to the ethnic orthodox they do not possess any valid lines or church authority to administer the Holy Mysteries or other sacraments.
