Project Guidelines: Multimedia Presentation

General guidelines for a PowerPoint, HTML, or Word presentation using digitized images (photos, drawings, tables, etc.) Although the main emphasis is visual imagery, I also require you to include text explaining the images.

Image
(with title and text)

Images that expand the main theme
(explain with text what they are)

Other images that support
(here, you can deviate into any area you feel is appropriate)

  • short video clips, photos

  • a drawing that you make to summarize each point

  • a table, chart or graph to illustrate the previous point

  • internet links to related sites

Project Guidelines: Essay

Cover Page (Title Page)

Any format will do, but keep it simple and use the same letter size. The title should reflect the main them. Include your name, course, class time and date. All information should be centered.

Body

  • Five to seven pages (not including Title, References, or Appendix)

  • Align left margin only

  • Do not use the first person ("I" or "me")

  • Avoid plagiarism: Always cite your sources, even if using information vaguely related to the source of your information. Here are some examples of how to cite in the Body (see below):
    1. Dirct Quotes or very close to the source: for example, ...professor Jorge Sanchez, indicates in his investigation that "the archaeological site in Jalisco tells us that..." (Sanchez, 1999; 12-15).
    2. If using related information that comes from the text but it is not a direct quote: (Sanchez, 1999)

  • All the cited material should be in the References section.

Introduction:

1-3 paragraphs. Inform the reader of the theme and its related topics. How are you going to develop the problem? What is the theoretical stance of your analysis? Give some preview of the points to be developed in the text. (Develop an outline of all the main points).

Theme Development:

Explain to the reader the resources you are using. Tie the topics discussed to the course and to the text. All the points should be structured in such a way that they are supported with facts (i.e. use citations). Make sure all these points flow together and that you use transitions. (It is always a good idea that you have the outline next to you as you write).

Concluding section:

1-3 paragraphs. This is your opportunity to put your points of view into the general perspective. Can you propose any new perspectives to your topic(s)? List the problems encountered and personal biases (but keep it in the third person).

References

All the work you cited in the text should be listed here, even if you did so in the footnotes (if you use any). Use any style (MLA, APA, AAA) but use it consistently. All websites employed should be listed as well.

References

Use this section only if you are going to use any images, mpas, plates, tables, charts, or graphs you reffered to in the text as "(see Appendix)."

Here is where you should include the list of questions, the people interviewed, and your results. Make sure you refer to them in the body of your work as "(see Appendix I)", etc.
